Passed nclex ! And tips !

Students NCLEX

Published

Hello everyone ! To begin , I took my NCLEX on August 15 , 2014 and I did the pearson vue trick one hour later and I got the good pop up !!! 48 hours later , I got the offical confirmation that I passed ! ( I never had time to post this on line ha )

These are the following tips I highly recommended:

1. If you are in nursing school , please read all the material and genuinely try to learn the material. I personally have a strong foundation in Anatomy and Physiology and Pathophysiology, which greatly helped during my review for the NCLEX.

2. If you are in nursing school , please take your clinical experience seriously , I personally have learned so much from my clinical rotations and it helped during the questions.

3. Allow your self amply amount of time to study and review for the NCLEX. If you are the one who gets anxious and nervous when it comes to test taking , DO NOT TELL OTHERS YOUR EXAM DATE ! It will greatly reduce that indirect pressure of passing when friends or family ask.

4. DO NOT SELECT EVERYSINGLE STUDY RESOUCE KNOWN TO MANKIND. I personally use the 8 week "NCSBN" and "Prioritization , Delegation , and Assessment 3rd edition". I completed all of the NCSBN lessons and I completed all of the other book I mentioned above.

5. HUGE TIP * I scheduled my exam at 8:00 A.M. eastern time. I knew that It would take approximately 1 hour to drive down to the testing center. Everyday, I would wake up 6:00 A.M , take a shower , eat breakfast , and by 8:00 A.M. I started to do questions. I ONLY DID 60 QUESTIONS FROM THE NCSBN TEST BANK EVERYDAY. DURING/AFTER MY 60 QUESTIONS I WOULD REVIEW ALL MY RIGHT AND WRONG AND UNDERSTAND WHY I GOT THE QUESTIONS RIGHT OR WRONG. After, my 60 questions I simply spent the rest of the day going over the lessons in NCSBN and supplemented the other book I mentioned before. For example , if I did a lesson on Cardiac , I would go to the other book and do all the cardiac questions.

6. HUGE TIP * PLEASE DO ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ON THE COMPUTER. DO NOT DO THE QUESTIONS IN THE TEXT BOOK. To begin, NCSBN is an online resource and the other book I mentioned above provided a code, which allowed me to take the questions on the computer. ONE MAY ASK WHY ? By, waking up 6:00 A.M. and taking all the questions online , I am simulating the real LIFE NCLEX.

7. ARRIVE AT THE TESTING CENTER 15-30 MINUTES AHEAD OF TIME AND BRING BRAIN FOOD ( WATER , SNACKS , CANDY.) DO NOT FORGET IDENTIFICATION.

8. During the exam , after every question close your eyes and take a deep breath !!! Read each question twice and take your breaks it helps !!!

9. Do not PANIC IF YOUR EXAM DOES NOT END IN 75 QUESTIONS , KEEP GOING , IT MEANS YOUR DOING SOMETHING RIGHT TO BE STILL TAKING THE EXAM.

10. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU FUTURE NURSES.

Congratulations!!

Hi

I took the exam last friday and it shut down at 75 items. I found out i failed by quickresult. This is depressing. I used the kaplan questionaires given by my friend as my review materials.. I applied for new mexico. I hope I can apply again, retake the exam and pass.. I cant afford to enroll in a review center coz i am currently employed. All i can do is review after my work.. I realized i can only answer up to 30 questions after work, after that Im dead on bed.. im planning to buy the kaplan strategies and read this every after work atleast two hours.. This very frustrating.. i cant focus because i also work during daytime and get tired after that.. i lack the time.. Help. I dont want to waste the money i spent for the CES and eligbility.. i want to retake so it wont be wasted even i spend again for the regstration and scheduling in PV. HELP.

Hello Carlovil575,

I would first of all like to thank you. It must be very upsetting for you and I understand that you are in a difficult situation. However, I understand you have an obligation to work and providing food on the table, but, we maybe have identified one of the problems. First of all, by the end of the day, after work your brain is totally fried and you are more likely to get the question wrong ( I am speaking from personally experience. I used to take my practice question at night, however, there was a huge increase in my scores as soon as I took them in the morning.) I don't know your time frame, but, there is usually a 45 day wait period in between taking the NCLEX. I would HIGHLY recommend "NCSBN" for 8 week's and the following book "Prioritization , Delegation , and Assessment 3rd edition". Best of Luck !

Hello Cslusrn2014,

Because of my states Board of Nursing, I am not aloud to disclose that information. However, I can inform you my solid foundation and review of Medical Surgical, Psychiatric, Pediatrics, and Maternity really helped me out during my exam! I would first recommend you identify your learning style (visual, auditory, and hand's on), I need all three for me to comprehend a concept. First of all, I recommend you to briefly skim through your class notes, or class textbook with whatever your having difficulty with or need to refresh on. I would then reinforce that with supplemental videos from Youtube, touch base on whatever concept you are reviewing. Finally, I would go to NCSBN and do the lesson on uncomplicated labor and delivery and than complicated labor and delivery. Similarly, I would do the same for pediatrics, and if you have a solid foundation or a decent understanding of Medical Surgical, Psychiatric, Pediatrics, and Maternity you will breeze though this !!!

Thanks for the advise. I am currently downloading the Kaplan audio for my content. Im planning to listen to this while working since my work is only in front of the computer. I hope I can do working and listening to Kaplan at the same time and absorbing the lessons. Then after my work, I will go straight to answering QandA at least 50 items when I got home. Then, every weekend, I will still read Kaplan content and answer questions every after topic. I hope my plan would work. This is the best plan I cant think of as now with my situation. Working and studying !!! =)
