Passed NCLEX-RN, first try

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

hello! i just want to thank everyone in this forum for all the help that i got for my nclex. my favorite forums are:

-anyoone up for random fact throwing??

-filipino nurses who passed the nclex without the help of review center

and i particularly like the threads started by nclex passers who shared their tips.

i guess it's my turn now :)

i took nclex last february 05, 2009 - thursday. i am a foreign educated nurse so i have to go to another city to take it. i did not get enough sleep because we had to go somewhere the night before the exam. it was unavoidable so please don't follow my example. i also stopped studying two weeks before my exam because a friend of mine passed away and i have to go to the wake and was just not in the mood of studying.

so i was surprised and thankful when i stopped @ 75 and passed! i studied for less than three months and i have no review center. i just read the whole saunders compre book. i used lippincott q&a but only answered a few chapters. i finished the whole book of prioritization, delegation and assignment by lacharity. i also did kaplan strat book and cd. i also finished the question trainers from kaplan. i answered a total of 4000-5000 questions. i rested on sundays and holidays. i did not force myself to study if i am not feeling well. there were times when i would just spend half of the day swimming and then sleeping but afterwards, i would make sure that i accomplish something. i printed an organizer and wrote the chapters that i have to finish during that day. i also did suzanne's first and second tips but added a few things that i have mentioned above. her plan is so nice and practical. highly recommended!

so.... what made me pass?

i don't think it was my effort, books, intelligence or strength. it was god who was guiding me during the review period and even during the exam. so i give him all the glory and praise. i had no review center but jesus was with me. i stopped studying two weeks before the exam yet his wisdom sustained me. i was not in perfect shape during the exam because of my lack of sleep yet he became my strength.

bottomline? trust the lord and always acknowledge him in everything you do. :) he will surely guide you. be faithful too in your review 'coz it's your way of sowing the seeds for the lord to multiply.

god bless everyone! :)

Hi Chengzz! I am also reviewing now for IELTS. I'll take it next month, most likely.

I am going to do a self-review again. I'll apply the same principles: Pray and Study :) As what you've said, nothing is impossible with Him.

Congratulations! :D

Hey Hersheys8,

Quick question, what was the reason why the BRN did not post your results online and wait for the snail mail to come? Were you missing some documents or info in your application, and what r they? Im just curious. I took mine yesterday the 17th, another 18 hours of wait.

Thanks.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to focus on reviewing content or just practicing questions for the NCLEX?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

If you know your results and you have failed then just concentrate on practising questions and reading the rationales. If you haven't got your results yet then hang fire on studying

hi rumba01!

during the first few weeks, i focused on content review but i did a little practicing too. we may have a different style. what worked for me may not work for you. but definitely, it would really help if you already know your content well so that when you practice answering questions, things won't too hard for you anymore.

god bless! :heartbeat

don't give up and don't be too hard on yourself. there's no official result yet. silverdragon is right. just hang on :)

I passed my NCLEX with first try.. I took it last june 10, 2008 California state.. I have a review center but I was always absent or if not i go half day.. I started reviewing January but never so serious because I am reviewing with my boyfriend, we come and go in my review center, and put more time in dating! hahaha! we only got serious in my review when it was april all what we did was to answer test question in Pearsonvue and we answer subject by subject,5 days a week, and all its rationale where we got wrong or just luckily got it right we write it on pad of paper and at night read it then read and answers saunders 4th edition book also.. when the clock strikes 11:30 PM I stopped and go to sleep.. I am not deligent in studying, I never study early in the morning because it gives nothing to me.. I tried it once studying till dawn and waking up early but I don't absorbed anything ( I also don't study quietly, I should be facing the television, because it keeps me awake). On month of May we did the same thing but we also answer now 75 questions of saunders CD.. and that's it.. we finish pearson at the end of May but we did not finish our saunders..~lazy to read~.. 5 days before our exam we flew to Makati and brought with us our laptop and days before our exam we keep on answering questions and going to church to pray..

On the day of our exam we went to the testing center early to avoid rush that can lead to mental block.. we both stop at 75 question and took it for almost 3hrs..~whew~ ITS HARD!! I got 6 SATA and 2 Computations while he got 12 SATA. after a month `WE BOTH PASSED'! Thanks to God!!

Actually how you prepare to your exam is really up to you. find your comfort on how to handle your studying, don't ever overstressed yourself, find time to relax, if you think there is no absorption while you are studying then stop and rest. don't push yourself too hard. PRAY,PRAY, PRAY to give you strenght and willingness to study. Ask people for advise but find what fit you most. You can never tell if you are ready to take the test because the more its coming the more it feels that you are unprepared. And don't get caught of seeing yourself reading every author of NCLEX books because it will only confuse you with their principles, values , etc when you are taking your exam. remember authors have different approaches. Find only 1 or 2 sources that has similar approach for your studying.

Remember the EXAM is not EASY.. I dont know for some but for me I can say that its not easy even after passing it! even until now. Number 1 question for me is not easy..

Goodluck and congratulations to everyone!

Wow congratulations for passing its good to here a an international student to pass....Iam a international student tooo....thanks for the tips good luck to you n ur career ...

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing these, u inspired me.:wink2: I'm also planning to take the nclex this year but there's no exact date yet, but i will register as soon as i felt ready to sit for the exam. You're right, believe to the power of God and He will surely work. He is faithful to His words (John 14:14, "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.") That's how good Jesus is. God bless us all!:nuke:
