Students NCLEX
Published Feb 19, 2015
Hi Everyone I've been lurking on these forums for quite some time now and I feel that this forum really helped and I want to give back. So let's start
resource materials:
that's about all I used
What I think helped me pass? Questions, Questions, Questions
I did read hurst and thanks to it I understood core concepts but to me it wasn't enough. Think of it like a foundation and now that you have a foundation you need your building afterwards. That's where PDA by La Charity and Kaplan came in
my scores In La Charity will make you cry if you saw them
I got the book and I'd test myself only getting 50%-60% of the answers right
so like out of 20 i'd only get 11 or something but don't let the wrong answers and low scores discourage you. read each rationale for every question that you passed and eventually you'll get a "feel" for it. I wrote down, yes I wrote down every single rationale that I encounterted and reviewed it by the end of the day
So I basically did test questions all day wrote the rationales and organized it to either cardio, maternity, respiratory, meds etc. you get the idea. and reviewed the rationales at the end of the day. because I retain info better when I write them
I'm not a US educated nurse either I'm from the Philippines and was not even close to being an honor student in my school
I went to school bringing nothing but my phone and tablet. No paper, no pen, no book, nothing. because I was so lazy.
So if somebody like me who is far from stellar academically passes then people like you who have burned your a** off studying will definitely pass
The NCLEX is not as hard as people make it to be! it's hard I'll tell you that but not as hard as people make it seem. If you have the Qtrainers by kaplan and do PDA by La Charity you'll feel right at home answering the NCLEX
Questions, Questions, Questions I have the Saunders book but man the info was just too much and I just well i didn't read before im sure as hell not reading now. So I told myslef F*ck it im just gonna do test questions
you see if you do tons and tons of questions and write down the rationales you're basically reviewing content as well. hey at least it worked for me maybe that'll work for some people too
I had 1 math question and a positioning question and I knew I got both wrong
I didn't even bother calculating the math question I just typed in a random number and clicked next. So by now you can tell Im not the sharpest tool in the shed.
If you know your way around google you can find resources everywhere.
I walked out of the testing center dazed. Thinking *** just happened in there? Where the hell did those questions come from. I put on the earplugs that they provided you with and all I could hear was my heart beating so loud it was like a disco in there!
If a C something student like me who is not even a US educated nursing student can pass the NCLEX the 1st time in 85 questions
You definitely can. I forgot to mention my hurst scores ow boy they were sh*t
you could only take the test 6 times here were my hurst scores
70=55%
69=55%
74=59%
72=57%
75=60%
81=64%
and well according to hurst the average scores of people who passed the nclex taking their program was 86 points or 68%
I was nowhere near that pecentage but I passed
Just remember. You cannot and will not ever even in your entire lifetime know everything about nursing
and the NCLEX is not as hard as people make it seem to be
you got this. I know 90% of you reading this have way better scores than me so if I can do it. So can you

You'll be fine. Just keep practicing questions and reading their rationales or even writing them down.
What school from the philippines are you from?
Don't worry you will pass. You will be surprised as to how similar the qtrainers and la charity are to the nclex.

Kaplan Q trainers and La Charity really nailed it for me. I read in the forums here somewhere that they are more or less the high level questions on the nclex? Im not sure I forgot but. Just get the hang of answering those ridiculous critical thinking questions and you will pass
Thanks a bunch! Did you end up finishing the entire LaCharity book, including the case studies? Or did you just do all of the chapters?
Also, how did you go about reading the 5th day materials from Hurst? The meds are such a struggle for me.

I didn't do the case studies but I did finish all the chapters in the La Charity Book. and the scores were very depressing XD hahaha
you know to be honest I actually didn't do much of the 5th day materials from hurst except the safety and infection control part.
and btw did you get that study guide here on the forums?
