Nerves are getting me.

by Kiky87

I'm scheduled to take my NCLEX-RN at the end of next week and my nerves are starting to get me. I've been studying about 3 weeks now and have done it diligently. I took the in-person Kaplan course, have finished all the qbank questions and have q7 and the 265 sample on qbank left to do. I also went through the entire book and made flashcards on what I thought I didn't know and have been reviewing them. My diagnostic was 62 and readiness was 68. However it seems like my scores are still hovering around 63%. I don't know what else to do! Any advice?

I'm also getting mixed reviews from classmates who took the exam, some saying it's insanely difficult and others telling me not to worry at all. And this is coming from people with similar nursing school grades.

Help!

I feel your pain, trust me. I took mine yesterday and have been a ball of nerves since last week. I couldn't sleep at all the night before and was up a total of 22 hours yesterday just stressing over it. I passed with 75 and was done in less than an hour. I thought I totally bombed it, but apparently that's the case with pretty much everyone. I never took a review course such as Kaplan or Hurst. I just did question after question..over and over in a Saunder's book. It sounds to me like you're ready! I would definitely say to know your lab values...how to correct the problem if the numbers are too low/high...know infection control, abc's, and priority such as what pt. you would see first in a given scenario. Good luck!! I'm sure you'll do fine! You sound more prepared than I was!

Keep doing what you are doing. Practice everyday. I just graduated from pn program and they told us if you get higher than a 60% on the practice test you will most likely passed the nclex. I as while was nervous about the nclex . I took my test June 9. Tried the "trick" and keep getting the pop-up screen. Hope that is a good sign that I passed. But relax. The practice tests are suppose to get you in the mode of nclex style questions. I say that you are doing well. Keep me updated.

I spend about half of the day thinking I'm going to do poorly and the other half I think "well, I studied a boatload. We will see!" Pharm has always been my weakest point and I'm trying to focus on that until the test date rolls around. Kinda like a needle in a haystack though...

Were the questions on "infection control," common ones such as ( MERSA, VRE,TB etc) ? or should I brush up on the least common communicable diseases. thanks.

Araujojr, you might want to post your question as a separate thread since so it can get answered. I haven't taken the test yet. But I bet the response you'll get is: anything is fair game.

Araujojr, I took the nclex-pn and there were infection control questions. Brush yourself up on what would a nurse do before entering a room, handwashing, etc. Good luck!

This test in unpredictable. The best you can do is to prepare diligently and go in with a can-do attitude on the day of the test. Wishing you good luck.
