need help..

Hello all!

I'll be taking my NCLEX-RN for the 2nd time around this month and praying that this will be my moment to shine.
However, I'm having a hard time with the delegation part. Nursing assistants, UAP's and LPNs were never mentioned in my entire 4years of nursing school back home. Can anybody help me what they specifically do? In terms of what can be done and what can't? Replies would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! =D

If you have not already done so, I would urge you to pick up a copy of Lacharity's "Prioritization, Delegation and Assessment." It's a book of practice questions that will help you nail this topic. I picked up a used copy on Half.com for around $10.

Basic rules for NCLEX purposes:
Never delegate care of an unstable patient to an LPN or unlicensed personnel. A new admit is automatically deemed unstable and in the hands of the RN.

An LPN can perform an admission assessment as long as it is reviewed and approved by an RN.

An LPN cannot perform any discharge teaching except in cases where standardized materials are used.

Never delegate feeding of a patient who is at risk of aspiration to a UAP (e.g., a stroke patient).

LPN - must have a stable patient with expected outcome.
UPN - must have a stable patient with unchanged condition.

RN - does admissions, teaching and nursing judgement.

Hope this helps. I took a review course and this is what our instructor told us.
