NCSBN 5 week course review extlearning

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi! Did anyone do the NCSBN extlearning review online? What were your scores? I know NCSBN wants you to have 75% on each lesson. Are you reviewing all the materials before taking the post exam? If you completed a lesson, did you go back to retake lesson to improve your score? Did answers change or were they same ones? Did you think NCSBN were similar to NCLEX style questions? How many lessons did you do in a day since its only 20 q's but a bunch of material to review?

P.S. Is there SATA in NCSBN anywhere on the lesson plan?

Any suggestion....thank you! Sorry for so many questions here.

Hi roseonye,

Yes, NCSBN was very similar to questions in NCLEX. NCSBN was just questions and questions which I liked.

Kaplan was very hard with their questions. Kaplan is good and puts you to your limit lol. Kaplan has so many SATA questions, pictures, and put in order items like NCLEX exam. I liked Kaplan SATA questions, and VIDS!

Do as many questions as you can each day. I did about 200 q a day plus I watched 1 vids daily from Kaplan.

I have the Kaplan book too. But When you purchase Kaplan they will send you a book and I read about 8 chapters in the book and they have great drug chapter broken down with S/E and S/S. Loved it!

Good Luck.

Hi assess&safety1st that is good to hear that ncbsn is similar to nclex question because ncbsn is what I only use to review for the nclex. But before purchasing the ncbsn review i also read saunders 4th edtition and kaplan rn coursebook 2010. Do you think it is ok for me to somehow rely on ncbsn and be ready for nclex? It is gonna be my first time to take the nclex and i am taking it before halloween.

Hi Diel08,

We all used NSCBN on this discussion forum.... I do think it was similar to actual NCLEX exam itself. As I was reading each question it always reminded me of Exam Cram CD, too, little of both.

What does everyone else think on this discussion forum?

I also have Saundars Green PN book and read it 3 times, entire book.

I also have Kaplan PN book 2010-2011 and read it 3 times, entire book.

NCSBN: I started NCSBN in Aug 2012. I did NCSBN for 5 weeks and did at total of 2,630 questions. I read all the information that provided in each session. I was scoring between 50s 1st time taking 20 q. Then I would take it a 2nd time and get high 90s. Overall was about 60% test and I know NCSBN was us to get 75%. NCSBN didn't have any SATA q's, pics or put in order, No vid. My NSCBN expired so I decide to do Kaplan.

Kaplan: I paid a lot of money for Kaplan. Kaplan mailed me a PN book and I read 8 chapters and reviewed the drug chart in the back of the book and watched the vid daily one per day.

I did the full 1,000 q’s for PN question bank I was getting 48% at first then I started to read the book and watched the vids and my score increased to 64% to sometimes 80%!

I did the readiness test of 100q and received 64%.

Kaplan Vid w/q’s = 130 q

Kaplan has a lot of SATA questions, pictures, and put in order just like NCLEX. Kaplan is much harder then NCLEX.

I studied from end of July to Oct, Monday – Friday 5 hours a day. No weekends. I was focus and determine to pass the 2nd time! I recorded daily what chapters I read and how many questions a day I did. I was averaging about 200q a day plus I would watch Kaplan Vid daily of drugs. I did a total of 8,915 questions from end of July to Oct.

I focus on NCSBN, Kaplan and allnurses study guide 35 pages til the day of exam.

The night before I read allnurses study guide and it helped. I had a lot of infection control questions on my NCLEX exam and I remember SPIDERMAN lol and thank you to the person who wrote it and shared it with many of us.

I took the NCLEX and it stopped at 87 q screen turned blue. That was hardest exam ever! I walked out as if I failed and was so sad. The lady said to me before I left “I hope you get good news” and smiled. I bet they know the results! Last time I took it and failed the lady said good bye and didn't look at me. I pray each morning and GOD hears prayers.

I checked Pearson website 4 hours later and received a good pop up "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact your Member Board for further assistance. Another registration cannot be made at this time" and at the bottom it says Status: Delivery Successful.

When I took it for 1st time it took me to the credit card page and allow me to pay another $200 and Status was: Delivery.

I love NCSBN and Kaplan! I would highly recommend both or one.

Good luck to you and do as many questions as possible each day and read allnurses study guide, too.

Keep us updated!

I also wanted to mentioned the week before my NCLEX exam, I didn't text anyone, or call anyone, or checked allnurses website or my emails.

I was focus on 200 questions a day, Kaplan vid daily and reading information.

How are you doing Sweetnurse786?

Wow you really deserved to pass with all that hrd work that you did. You are so inspiring! Yeah i have the 35 page study guide from allnurses to which i have already read but i will read it over and over until before the day of my exam. I also got a kaplan question trainer cd which i bought from ebay. I will use that to do questions because my ncbsn expires today and i've already completed everything and all the questions in there my average I guess for all the questions would be 60-65%. My exam is going to be in 2 weeks so nervous already! Anyways thank you for the tips I will surely remember them. Congratulations by the way on passing the nclex!

Thank you :yeah:

You will be fine! Just do a lot of questions and read all the rationals from wrong to right. Keep us posted! Good Luck!

The allnurses guide study is amazing 35 pages  review

i am really enjoying the ncsbn 5wk program. i am getting a lot of SATA and delgation but no video, audio or calculations yet but am still in mental health. so far so good.

I'm starting to delve deeper into MaryAnn Hogan's Pearson Reviews & Rationales: Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-RN, (013262107X), Mary Ann Hogan, Textbooks - Barnes & Noble. I like the fact that I can retake unlimited number of tests online for each client needs based on my diagnostic pre-test result. And the good thing is...access is good for a year from time I activated.

Here's excerpt from study plan:

"The Client Needs study plan will help you focus on and master the eight Client Need outcomes covered on the NCLEX-RN® exam. To begin, complete the 100 question Diagnostic Pretest. Based on the results of your pretest, you will be assigned a study activity, a self test quiz, and links to the eText for each Client Need outcome for which you need additional study."

Anyone else using this resource for NCLEX RN?

MaryAnn with Pearson as I see on title of book, interesting I didn't know. Does it have vids like Kaplan?

There's no video (so far). It's similar to NCSBN but a little more structured, in my opinion. The online questions are great and thought-provoking. Makes you really use critical thinking skills. I get frustrated here and there because of higher level questions having VERY similar answer choices.
