NCLEX-RN today! Good pop up...and how I studied

Nursing Students NCLEX

Updated:   Published

I just graduated on December 12th 2012. I received my ATT on the 28th of Dec and scheduled my NCLEX-RN for today Jan 3, 2013.

From the moment I graduated I began studying (for about 20 days) and I took the Kaplan course the very next day after graduation! I took the Diagnostic and got a 67% which I was told was really good. Here are the rest of my scores

Qbank-450 questions answered, 60% avg

QT1-63%

QT2-59%

QT3-57%-worried

QT4-61%

QT5-Skipped!

QT6-64%-tired of studying-when I got this score I scheduled!

QT7-Skipped! Studying is sooo overrated, LOL!

Readiness Score-64.5%-taken on/around study day 5

I have read so many stories of others studying for months at a time. I'm the type of person who goes all in when I study. I studied from the moment I woke up until the moment I fell asleep with my laptop in my lap. At this moment my neck is in agony from staring at a computer screen so much and I think I lost some vision too, LOL! But I have to be honest...I was scared to take it as soon as I did. But I also didn't think I could be any more prepared.

I didn't use ANY other formal study guides! Just the Kaplan course materials and the "Study Guide" that is floating around this website.

I went to the test center in a daze not believing this was actually happening and I had the same thought as I was sitting there testing. I was praying SO HARD for the test to end @ 75 questions! I clicked "next" answering question #75 and then question #76 was there! I wanted to fall out of my chair! LOL! I said to myself I just need to get the next questions right because my life depended on it (Dramaqueen I know)! I really didn't want to go to 265! I answered that question and had a SATA next. My test screen went blue at question #77! I didn't feel like crying like a lot of people. I felt like I did my best and I hoped it showed!

As I was walking to my car I tried the PVT. And I got this message: "Delivery successful...Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact your Member Board for further assistance. Another registration cannot be made at this time."

So I think this means I'm an RN!:D

Congrats on passing!

This is great info to keep in mind as I get closer to that magical date- thanks for sharing your strategies and thoughts.

Most likely, I will use the same study plan as you. I can study every day for eight hours a day in cram sessions- that's how I have been successful in academics so far.

That study guide is absolutely amazing! We owe a HUGE thanks to whomever took the time and energy to put it together :)

Congrats Shannon! :nurse::up: I love a little inspiration! I graduated around the same time as you and took the Kaplan course the following week. The day after the course I ripped out the 3 wk plan in the book and have been following it since. I literally sit and study almost all day! I prefer to study with 110% effort and then celebrate sooner...instead of carrying my studying out. My breaks are mostly to eat (maybe occassional online shopping and looking for inspiration on allnurses lol) and then Im back at it. My test is scheduled next Tuesday. After taking my trainer 6 (62%) I almost rescheduled my test for this week, but instead I decided to save the $50 and study one more week. Took trainer 7 (61.9%) the other day and I felt that trainer 7 was the hardest. I actually havent found any part of studying easy though, but I just keep chugging away and when I get stressed I look at the background of my phone which says "keep calm and pass the nclex". I love that study guide that has been floating around and is probably all I will look at on Monday (the day before my exam). I'm praying that am RN this time next week! I think I will be more happy to see my name on the BRN website than when I graduated! ;)

Hello! I'm scheduled for taking my NCLEX exam this February 13. And I feel lost. I scored 49% on my QT1 and 60 on my QT2 and 3. My live classes will start on the 9th. Do you have any techniques on how to study? Congrats btw on passing ! ?

Thanks!

My technique was doing the q bank questions and learning from the questions I got wrong. Read the rationales! Go back and create a quiz with only questions you got wrong to be sure that you are retaining the new info. Do the same with your question trainers. Google disease processes & drugs that came up in questions that you had no clue about. Reword the info into terms you understand. Practice the decision tree. It'll come like second nature with practice. Good Luck!

Is there a link to this study guide that is floating around? I would love to check it out if someone would be willing to share it.

Sounds like you have an awesome plan and you are sticking to it BRAVO!! ? It actually doesn't cost anything to reschedule. $50 is due if you reschedule within 24 hrs of your test so rescheduling before that is absolutely FREE! ? A classmate warmed me about the fee and I decided to try it anyways and I was so excited to discover this! Your scores are great btw! Good Luck you got this! ;)

Oh and that study guide was great! I read it 3-4 times before testing! And info from it definitely came up that I otherwise wouldn't have known. Those mnemonics are great!

I attached the study guide to this post. If you can get to a computer you can click the link and download it. I don't think you can see the attachment if you are using the all nurses app.

Got it! Thanks so much! Congrats on having it all behind you! :) We all just got our ATTs today and a bunch of the girls in my cohort are taking it this month, I feel like a slacker for waiting till February, but I haven't been able to study much over the holidays, so I wanted to give myself a month to prepare.

Hey Medicmatt

I love the username btw! I was in the Army I served as a surgical tech ? Yeah, as far as the study plan this is how I studied throughout nursing school. We usually only had a few days to study except for our senior final. I would spend 12-16 hrs a day away from home studying for test and it worked for me ("A" student). 20 days was more than enough time for me. You know what works best for you so stick to it ;)

OMG! Yes! Whoever put that guide together deserves props because it definitely has helped many of us pass the boards ? Good Luck To You!!
