If you're only getting 50% right and you're getting easy questions, that leads to a fail. If the computer has to give you very hard questions to keep you at 50%, that's a pass.

Everyone will miss about 50% of the questions.

So....I took my test yesterday. I took ALL 265 questions and am completely exhausted. So, I am understanding that this may mean that the computer did not know with 95% certainty that am "competent". So now what? Does this mean that the board looks at the questions I answered correctly to see if they are at a certain level? I walked out of there certain that I had failed.

The number of questions mean absolutely nothing in determining whether or not that you passed or failed.

Each question is pre-determined to be considered at a certain level by the NCLEX scoring, if you want to look at it in a simple format. When you start taking the exam, you are given a question at a certain level, and as you answer that one correct, the exam gives you harder questions, Each nurse gets 50% correct, and 50% incorrect. Even if I were to take the exam tomorrow, I would get 50% correct and 50% incorrect. They look at the level that you are getting questions correct in, and at what level of difficulty that you are missing questions at. You need to be answering at a certain level to pass the exam.
