NCLEX anxiety

I too graduated in May 2002 and am waiting to take the NCLEX. I am nervous and anxious but am confindent in the knowledge I have gained in school.

When I am not working, I usually study about 2-3 hrs a day (not all at one time though....my head would explode!). I have 3 different programs for the computer and the Lippincott's NCLEX-RN study guide. I took a pre-test on one of the computer programs to identify my strong and weak areas. So when I study, I mainly focus on the weak areas.

I got a job in NICU as a new grad and can work as a GN even though I haven't taken my boards.

A few of my classmates have taken the boards and passed. They said it was hard but they felt OK when they finished. I think at this point we either know it or we don't...just brush up on the weak areas.

I will keep you in my thoughts as to your recent break-up. I am sure that took a lot of courage to do. Try to stay focused on your goals which you worked so hard for and I am sure that everything will work out the way it was intended to.

My advice is to take as many practice questions as possible. I took about 1000 prior to my boards and it was a huge help. Also, know what to expect on your boards. For instance, I have probably 8-10 questions on prioritizing patients and nursing management. I had maybe one on lab values and two drug questions, none with calculations. Remember, the test is very broad based so don't get bogged down in the minutae of every lab value and the knee bone being connected to the thigh bone. General nursing knowledge and you'll get through just fine. For me, it was over in 55 minutes with 75 questions.

I too am freaking out! I feel that no matter how hard I study I still don't know anything! Does anyone else feel this way? I am taking my boards on July 10th, the first one in my class. I'm half tempted to change the date because of this anxiety.

What kind of relaxation techniques have you all used to prepare for this test?

I agree with Ryaninmytv. Do a lot of practice questions and really get used to prioritizing.

I took the test 3 days ago and am waiting for the results. My test did shut off at 75, and I feel fairly confident that I passed, but it will be nice to see that in writing. I think I only had 1 med question and I can't even remember if I had any lab ones.

I used the Saunders book as well as several different practice CD's to study. I stopped studying on Saturday and took the test on Monday. Just try to relax (ha, ha) and focus on the question without reading too much into it. As far as relaxation goes, I listened to some classical music when I studied and on the way to the test center. I also closed my eyes and took some deep breaths before starting the test. I almost forgot, I actually told myself out loud in the car that I could do it. Hey, we all made it through nursing school and that was hard.

with any test : I have used this appraoch when it comes to multiple choice.... I use the process of elimination.... usually you can weed out the 2 obviously wrong answers then with the two left I read them carefully and go with my first instinct ..... or reason them out and choose the best answer after reading the question again to make sure I am answering the question... not how I interpeted the question..... does this make sense????you should look up Test taking on a search engine to help you relieve some of that test anxiety and get good tips on taking a test.....hope I have been helpful......

I have just graduated from school, and I am scheduled to sit my boards on July 23rd 2002 (of all days this is my b-day). I am so nervous, I have been studying at least 4 hours QD since my graduation (June 30th 2002) and I feel like I am never going to be ready....ANYONE!!!!!! have any ideas or advice on how I can remain sane and calm until this is over?

I just took my boards on the 18th and I have to say, I took much harder tests in school. Keep the stats in mind, well over 80 percent of test takers pass the first time, the test is a test of minimum competency, you graduated from a school of nursing, most schools teach WAY above minimum level. You'll do fine. My test took less than an hour and shut down at 75 questions.
