Maternity and Nclex?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

So I ran out of time to study, I am taking the nclex pn in about 3 days. I know very well med surg and some peds. But maternity is my weakest point. I have barely started the chapter last night. Is there certain topics in maternity I should spend more time on? I was thinking on focusing just on the problems that can come from giving birth. What is the nclex most likely to focus on?

I"m sorry, but no one can answer this for you accurately; every NCLEX exam is different.

But maybe this will help: you need to be familiar with the content/knowledge base an entry-level RN is expected to know.....and you are expected to understand delegation, prioritization, and strategy for these types of questions. You need to understand the scope of practice of an RN in maternity care.

I see you are taking the NCLEX PN. I took it back in December and I had some maternity questions but I also know some folks who had none. You won't know what you'll get till you are sitting in front of that computer screen. I don't think anyone can tell you which topics in maternity you are likely to be tested on. All topics are fair game.

Drat, I missed the "pn" part of the OP's post! Sorry. Well, everything I said MINUS the 'RN' part :)

Not sure about PN, but for my RN exam I had about 8 maternity questions that were pretty straight forward.
