Looking back

Students NCLEX

Published

I was just looking at my porfolio from school and I got an A. The short term goal was to pass nclex the first time. My long term goal was to go for my masters in midwifery. I said to my self I can't give up. I also wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. I did good in OB in school. I'm not going to give up on my dreams. Even though I took nclex 9 times It really hurts. The tears that I have shed. Since I was a little girl I always w antdd to be a nurse.

I normally don't post, more of a lurker but I want to say, that is the spirit. Don't give up on something that you've wanted all your life. Keep on until you finally get to your goal as a Midwife. I want to work in Peds. I am currently studying for my NCLEX now, recently graduated in December. I live in NY as well. If you ever tried Kaplan maybe you can do that again. I heard that have that guarantee-where you can take the class again for FREE..depending if you fall within certain guidelines. They are big on "how to take the test". I am in the midst of that right now. Or you can perhaps contact your school and ask for help..

I suggest taking a refresher course. If you cannot pass it after 9 times, something definitely needs to change. A refresher course may help you be more successful on your next attempt.

Critical thinking and test taking skills are the point of the refresher courses, they help you understand the rationales and why the correct answer is the correct one. If you've taken the NCLEX 9 times and you've taken 3 refresher courses and still cannot pass, it may be time to consider re-enrolling into a good nursing program and start fresh. I understand you graduated from a nursing program already, but obviously somewhere along the line, something went wrong.

Starting at the LPN level and working your way up from there may not be a bad idea either. If this is what you really want to do, sometimes you have to take a detour to get there. Obviously re-taking the NCLEX over and over and over isn't going to lead to anything, so it's time to look into a new direction. Re-enrolling into a good school and starting fresh may be the direction you need to go.

Have you utilized Amazon.com: Kaplan NCLEX-RN 2012-2013 Strategies, Practice, and Review WITH CD-ROM (Kaplan Nclex-Rn Exam) (9781609785659): Kaplan: Books?

I'm not sure what resources you have on hand right now. With most NCLEX RN review books, the first few pages/chapters discuss critical thinking strategies and test taking techniques.

X factor I am not going back to school I have a BSN in nursing not matter what u do u still have to have a license to practice. Even going for a masters degree after that u have to take the exam. I want to go for my masters in midwifery but that is later on. I just need to get my strategies and test taking skills together. I can do this. If everyone can pass so can I. GOD is going to help me this time.
