Hi everyone,

I graduated from Nursing School back in January of 2010..And i havent taken my NCLEX-PN as yet because i was going through financial hardship and was not able to pay for my test..I recently paid and set a date for August 23rd..I am very scared because of the long wait and do not know if i should take the test or re-schedule and take a re-fresher course..I am currently using Saunders and Mosby's and i get good scores in them but i do not know if that would be sufficient in helping me..I just always remember our instructors saying do not wait too long because you will forget things and that's exactly what ended up happening to me..If you have been in a similar situation or know someone who was please comment I need any word of advice please..I'm really scared/sad:crying2:

Anyone?....I need at least one feedback please

How long have you been studying? Do you have a good grip on your content? Do you know your lab values, Diseases, infection control, etc....? You might want to study up on those things so that you can be familiar with them again. Do questions, lots of questions. Understand the wrong answer as well as the right answer by reading the rationals. I was one of those people also that did not take the test right away after nursing school. The instructors were right, you loose it if you don't use it. Good Luck!!

I use to study monday to friday about a hour a day (march-mid june) then i stopped..Since i started up again, I have been studying everyday for the past 3 weeks 2 hours per day..The most difficult section for me is the pharmacology section (routine meds as our instructors called it i.e cardio meds, antiobiotics, psych meds i am ok with)..I use saunders for practice and i have been getting in the 80's for all the systems, Pharmacology is not looking so hot for me as i stated i have been getting in the low 60's..Don't know if that's good enough..

Thanks for your reply

Sounds like you are doing pretty good in the systems (content), keep up the good work!! Don't get hung up on the Pharm, lots of times they will have meds on there that you never even heard of, do the routine meds like your instructors said to do!! Do know the prefixes and suffixes and what they mean for different meds, that does help. Saunders is really good and so is the Linda LaCharity Prioritization, Delegation Assignment Book. It helps you to prioritize situations and it has case scenario's. I hope you do well on August 23rd and if not, never give up your dream!! Good Luck to you!!

Honestly, don't stress about the meds;just make sure you understand the ones you come across when answering questions in the review book.

Some people wait for years. You just have to make certain you allow enough time to go over the content again. Don't expect to recall everything in three days; it might take closer to three months instead of three weeks. Think about how ready you really feel and decide about the date when you come to your own conclusions about your readiness to test. No harm in rescheduling, but don't do it more than once. Good luck.
