Kaplan & Lippincott -- Review Scores

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey all -- Brand new to the boards here. I finally decided to join after avidly reading the NCLEX boards. I am extremely excited/nervous about taking the boards. I have been doing review questions/tests here and there but cant seem to get into it. I know reading the rationales is important so I have been doing that on every test that I have taken. Anyways, I wanted some insight from those of you that have recently taken the NCLEX-RN and those of you who are also studying. How do your scores on practice exams compare to mine?

Here is a list of what I have done thus far:

Read Kaplan's 2010-2011 NCLEX-RN Strategies, Patrice, and Review Book cover to cover & Took the diagnostic test that comes on the CD with the book. My scores are as follows.

Diagnostic CD Test -- 69

Safe and Effective Care Environment: Management of Care -- 92

Safe and Effective Care Environment: Safety and Infection Control -- 70.03

Health Promotion and Maintenance -- 90.01

Psychosocial Integrity -- 76.69

Physiological Integrity: Basic Care and Comfort -- 72

Physiological Integrity: Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies -- 84

Physiological Integrity: Reduction of Risk Potential -- 66.7

Physiological Integrity: Physiological Adaptation -- 68

So far I have only taken one 75 question exam on Lippincott's CD the score for that was -- 65

:twocents: Any input would be greatly appriciated! :twocents:

Hi!

I graduated in early May and have my boards scheduled for this upcoming Sunday. I have been consistently studying everyday (material review-on my own with a book that was given to us on our last day of school and I completed 2000 questions from the Davis Nclex RN 2010, what I do when I get a question wrong is read and review the rationale and I always write down what I feel at least is relevant (ex: do not give aspirin to children w/ viral illnesses due to risk of Reye's syndrome..etc) and I study study study my notes (trust me it helps because in some way, shape or form it usually comes back at you in another exam question).

Now with Kaplan I too bought the 2010 strategy book, also read it cover to cover. On the computer exam I scored a 75% and in the book I scored a 73%. Once I finished with Kaplan and the Davis book I felt lost :uhoh3: I felt like I needed more practice on questions before my big day--I've been reading GREAT reviews about Kaplan so I decided (last Sunday) to purchase Kaplan's QBANK only online, the QBANK includes over 1000 questions and I do 200 a day, I will be done with them by Saturday. In comparison to the Davis book I feel Kaplan's questions are WAY HARDER and they really do get you thinking (I've also read on this site that Kaplan's questions are either equally as hard or even harder then the actual NCLEX RN). The QBANK is set up so that after every exam you take it will give you a progress report--I've called Kaplan and the representative said that 60% is what a student should be aiming for on each QBANK test so that kind of gives a person an idea on how challenging (yet very insightful these questions are). I will keep you posted since I take my boards on Sunday :D Good luck studying!

Don't get wrapped around the axle with predictor scores. They are not reliable when it comes time to test. Rely upon your own judgement of your readiness to test.

I'm not really wrapping myself up in the predictor scores, I just wanted to see how my scores compared to everyone else. Thanks for the advice though.
