This is optional but, I was wondering if there is an advantage to giving this information. I ask because, I am very cautious about giving this type of information out. Thanks in advance!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

If you have a SSN then you have to give it to them as it is a requirement by most states before they will issue a license, no license means no work as nurse.

Specializes in OB, Peds, Med Surg and Geriatric Nsg.

As what I have known, if you are a internationally trained nurse applying for NCLEX, you don't need an SSN. You just simply provide your passport number and a copy of it as well as a copy of nursing license from the country of licensure.

Though it varies on all states, make sure that the form that you are filling out is for INTERNATIONALLY TRAINED NURSES. Since the forms are different from those of the nurses that are educated here in the US.

If you are an internationally trained nurse and is already here in the US through a fiancee visa or a spousal visa, then you may visit the nearest SSA office to get an SSN. Just bring your passport with the visa attached to it and marriage certificate.

Good Luck:D:D!
