Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi,

The Live course is for 3 days. Do they suggest when one should sit after completing the course ? If not how long did you wait to take the NCLEX after completing the exam.

Any suggestions before starting the course ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I took Hurst Review and it was a waste of time honestly....3 days is enough time to go over the material....

-They go really fast

-They have so much material that are inaccurate....I had to use my notes to from school

- It cost a lot of money not worth it at all....

-They did not review pharm ..they tell u to read the handoutsONLINE ..

Thet do not review managment and delegation....

DO NOT LET THE VIDEO FOOL YOU !!!!

-on this website there are links to NCLEX4000 or 3500 and nursing videos

get a good Nursing Review Book ..

OR

ATI you go at your own pace .....

Thanks for the reply....

but i signed up for the online review this afternoon. my intent is to do 2 vids/day with 75 Qs from Kaplan's Qbank until i finish the vids. I viewed Fluids and Elect today and the vids did not put me to sleep like the Kaplan vids did. Lets see what happens in the next couple of days.

Hurst videos I found excellent

not boring and gave me just enough on the subject

i'ved watche them 2 times and filled out by book

Kaplan

great on strategies and testing bank

videos are very boring where the presenters are reading from notes,

Hurst is excellent for content review. Kaplan is excellent for a great bank of questions and strategies. I took Kaplan in person over 4 days and they didn't really go over pharmacy either. Drugs only came up as part of questions.

I haven't taken the NCLEX. However, there are quite a number of positive feedback about Hurst from people who took the NCLEX and passed. While it is true that they don't really cover management and delegation so much, I found their videos quite helpful in understanding the nursing content--especially fluids and electrolytes and the endocrine system (my most hated subjects). Plus, Marlene is very entertaining and hilarious. Once you've filled out your handouts, read them multiple times so you understand and know them "without a doubt and hesitation" as Marlene said. Do their practice tests. I will say this though: Hurst Review doesn't cover everything so when you're reviewing questions from other resources such as NCLEX 4000/Saunders/etc. and you don't know the topic...read up on them after. Don't make a list of topics to read later. Just read them right then. Since you also have Kaplan, you'll get a lot of practice with priority and delegation questions. Do what works for you and good luck. :)

Thanks for the replies...

and let me add that I also have the LaCharity Book to cover the Prioritization, Delegation and Management.

So I am using:

Hurst Review

Kaplan Qbank

NCLEX 4000 - just to add a lil variety with the questions

LaCharity.

Looking to take the Exam in 6-8wks (mid to late April)

I paid for the Hurst online review and I thought it was worth it. I did the Hurst because of the nursing content, but they also go over testing stategies. I watched most of the videos and a lot of what they covered was on my NCLEX test. $300 is nothing when you understand that it costs $200 to retake the NCLEX. If you fail the NCLEX they have an intensive review or the option of a partial refund.

I took Hurst and Kaplans Q trainer, and passed with 75 questions. I thought that Hurst really prepared me well. Just make sure you UNDERSTAND concepts, and not just review and memorize them, and this is what Hurst helps you do. Good luck!!

To those that took Hurst...

How did you schedule your studying....? did you watch all the vids first...then to the Trainer Questions ?

Or while going throught the videos....did you also try to do questions throughout the day ?

Just trying to make the most out of this....so any suggestions/comments are appreciated.

I'm working a FT job Mon - Fri...weekends at the hospital and I have a family. so my days are pretty full, but I need to get this exam over and done with. Tried using Suzanne's plan, but feel asleep most of the time during the reading....same deal with Kaplan's videos.

Watched another two vids today (Acid Balance and Burns). I took a 1hr power nap before viewing. filling out the study sheets definitely help.

Specializes in ICU, PACU.

What I did was do 1 system per day. Filling out the sheets while you listening did help me keep focused. Afterwards I would do questions on that particular system with NCLEX 4000. The next day, I would do a quick review of the sheets I filled up the day before then do the next system and answer questions again on that particular system. The next day I'd review the systems' sheets in which I've filled out thus far and then proceed to another system. This is how the info has stuck with me. Reading the sheets don't really take that long. It took me a couple of weeks to go through all the systems. Then I started reading the Saunders book and doing 100 questions on everything everyday. Once I became pretty confident with my content knowledge, I started Kaplan to work on my test-taking strategies and handling more difficult questions. I've only been doing Kaplan questions since then and will continue to do so until I take the test in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for all the replies...
