I took the Hurst review two years ago when i graduated hopkins and i am thankfull for it. i have friends who didn't take any review and who took Kaplan. I liked Hurst because of the "review factor". She made it so easy and at the end of 17 months of rn school it was refeshing to see how much i have learned and how clear everything was.
the bottom line is that everyone should know that no matter what review you take you will have not come across the type of questions you will find on your exam.
don't wait for 3-4 months to take the test. wait no longer than 2 months and don't work.

in the end i had $50,000 in student loans and if a class that was 350 would make me pass my exam that's worth the expense.

Well I am the one who started this forum and I just finished the hurst review last week and i thought it was a great review. However now I am just re-reading the book and the notes and i just purchased the Nclex 4000 cd and I should be receiving this CD next week, so i can get started on Ncelx questions again. I already failed the nclex and I really got to pass this test the second time. I am pregnant and due in Sept and I must pass before the baby is here. I am waiting 90 days from the last test DEC 22nd, and retaking the exam the first week of April. I could of waited 45 days, however I wanted to be certain and study more. This test is very serious to me. I got my results back and I was near passing on four of the sections and failed three sections of course pharmacology being one of them and Passed on of the sections on Safety, so I am not to far from passing. I just need to practice more questions and study more. This test isn't easy but we can all achieve it!!! I would love to hear back from all of you to know if you passed. Keep me updated especially those that have taken hurst!!

I don't think it matters when you take the NCLEX. I had friends that took the NCLEX 3-4 months after graduating & they all passed on the first try. They all told me to take it when I am ready. I just graduated from nursing school in December 08, & haven't taken NCLEX yet. I haven't got my ATT yet. I hope to take mine at the end of March or sometime in April. I am going to do Suzanne's plan b4 I take mine. On Hurst Review, I had a friend who did Hurst & she loved it. I see some good reviews about Suzanne's plan, you should try her plan.

So I am considering...well I have decided to take the hurst review; one of the representatives came to our nsa meeting here at ksu and she was very presuasive; also reading this thread has helped. one thing that the rep mentioned was that after paying the 350, you can take the review as many times as you like...i graduate in december, which will give me three opportunities to take this review.

our nursing program also has the ati review however, i haven't been as successful as id like...meeting only profieciency level II, after remediation sometimes. i'm not a great test taker as well. so, i plan to review may butt off using the hurst review as well as kaplan's 08-09 review and saunders. i dont want to have to take this test a second time.

btw...i'm new here.

I took Hurst and passed the first time with 75 questions. Hurst tells you quite clearly that there will be a lot of material on this exam that was not covered in class, but if you really KNOW the material they present, you will pass, which in my case was true, so I would say they are successful.

Now for the down side - you pay $350 and get four "full" days of class (which ended early every day for me), and at the end, they tell you that you have another day of class material to cover at home. Had we stayed the full day x 4 days, that material could have easily been covered in class.

Also, there was a lot of "extra" info to be downloaded and printed that was not covered in class or included on that 5th day of study. I think for $350 they should have provided ALL printed material.

Still, I passed, and I thought the material was presented well, was easily comprehensible, and was overall worth it.

You will enjoy Hurst Review. That is what I used to pass after being out of school for nine years. Make sure you talk out loud and lecture to your self or you can also record your self lecturing and go back and critically listen to yourself and critque your self. Many of my coworkers thought I was crazy because I was teaching myself all day at work. I would also walk up to them and teach them. Make sure you look at the 5th day content. I took alot of what I thought was really important from the 5th day content and I put them on the largest index cards I could fine and I would look at it everyday. As far as pharmacology she has a great section in her test taking strategy book. Also look at the Pharm section Ch 2 in exam cram was good. Also review your tv drugs as well as know the infection control mneumonic, also understand your managment and delegation. Also do all of the questions that Hurst Review provides she also has questions on priority. Which is very important. Also read ch 7 on how to answer priortiy questions in the Hurst Review test taking strategy book. Kaplan also has an excellent book on test taking strategies as well.
I hope that helps..Good luck

Hurst Review Nurse as of 02/11/09

PS. If you have any question feel free to contact Hurst Review this was the only company that gives you the support that you need. They don't just want your money. They want you to pass and they will do all that they can to help you achieve that goal.

I also did not pass the nclex lpn it's very serious to me as well. I actually was near to passing and above passing so I was so close. Im actually waiting for the 45 days and then take it, because I know the knowledge. I just need to work on my test taking skills. I would also like some feedback from others that have taken the test and did not pass, but happened to take it again and did pass the 2nd time. What I would suggest for you even though were in the same boat is to also focus on test taking skills, because what I realized was that alot of the material that I was tested on was based on knowledge and test taking skill.
