how weird are nclex questions????

by pri4fun

I have been reading majority of test takers say on this forum that nclex questions have been the hardest and weirdest test they have ever taken.

I am giving my test in 4 days and feel really anxious. I am trying to solve lots of questions etc... i am an avg student who has made it throu nurs school with bs and cs.

So really are all nclex questions WEIRD... or is it just few that are like that. I mean if you have been studying can you really sit there and reason out the answers??

please any inputs appreciated!!!!

Here's my advice...I won't discuss any individual question, but I'll tell you this...do not go immediately to your first choice without considering all of the choices. I know you've probably been told that your first instinct is usually right, but in this case consider all possible answers. I found on several occasions that my kneejerk answer was a bigtime distractor. Take your time!

Remember 85% of first time NCLEX test takers pass! So the odds are on your side. If the questions were really that "weird" don't you think the percentage of passing would be lower?

Hi,

As May said, we can't discuss any actual questions, but I agree with her about taking your time. Also make sure you read the "entire" question so you don't miss key words - like what would "not" be the most beneficial treatment for this patient instead of what would.

I did not do Kaplan or Saunders - our School had us buy the NSNA NCLEX Review, I used their CD and it must have helped because I passed. All of our Nursing exams/tests in school were NCLEX based and honestly the content in them was much harder than the actual NCLEX.

I got tons of priority questions that required "critical thinking" - really not questions that you could run home and look up in a textbook. They presented you with a variety of different patients - who would you treat first, etc. and you use your "Best" Nursing judgement to choose the right answer, just like you have to do in "real life". Hope this helps. Good Luck, Sue

Thanks for your replies. It has been scary reading peop with honors etc say it is nothing like they ever taken before, and its so hard.

But you are right i should remember that 85% peop pass, keep a positive attitude and say I will pass.

I have big time test anxiety. But i keep telling myself its not going to get the best of me, and to take one question at a time, breathe deep and do my best...

The QUESTIONS weren't "hard", but the answers were a different story. I found I could safely eliminate two choices right off the bat most times, but then I'd be torn between the other two options. And make sure you carefully read the question, and don't jump on the first answer you see that looks familiar.

Basically, breathe, take your time, breathe some more, and did I mention breathe?!?

Oh, and I didn't have any big complicated "scenarios"...most of the patient situations were pretty straightforward.

The questions are fine. You will read the question and feel relief that you know about this subject. Then you will read the 4 answers! Every answer could be right. You will have wanted to do all of them. Or every answer is wrong, and you don't want to pick any of them Last option is all the answers seem to have nothing to do with the question.

It all comes down to critical thinking.

This isn't about content-the NCLEX just wants to be sure that you will be a safe practioner.

My test was very straightford "Your patient has just been diagnosed with X, which of these would you expect to assess"
Nothing weird or tricky at all, basically what I was used to in school.
