Someone I know aquired all their credits necessary to take the NCLEX RN but never made it to take the exam. That was about 20-25 years ago. She is still an LPN and could pass the NCLEX without a problem. I don't know what to tell her now that she would like to finish what she started.
The requirements most likely has changed since then. Can anyone offer me any suggestions I can relay to her? Would she need to go back to school or just apply for the NCLEX, etc?

One does not apply directly to take the NCLEX exam, they must apply for licensure to the state board of nursing where they wish to get licensed.

She will need to apply for licensure, would first start with that. Also depends on what state that she is applying to as well as where she attended school. If she is in NY as you are, then she is going to have to go thru the CVS process if she is a foreign grad that is in place thru CGFNS and get that done before NY will look at her application.

This is something that I see all of the time, not that unusual.

Ok, I know she attended school in NY. She would most likely apply for NY or NJ. What I'm not sure about is, while I believe you have to validate your credits, would her credits still be honored considering it has been so long. Or is it that since she was already NCLEX-bound, her academic standing would still hold up?

So she will need to apply for the license first @ BON or this CVS process first? What is the CVS process?

If she is a USC then she doesn't need CVS as that is only for foreign trained nurses. However she will need to apply to the NY BON and they will make the decision to whether she meets requirements to sit NCLEX RN or whether she needs to do some courses
