Is there anybody who can help me in this question? As a foreign nurse
I would like to know how did you prepare for the NCLEX in Pharmacology ?
Are the books availabale in the Book store good enough (Saunders, KAPLAN, etc ), oder shall I buy a Pharmacology book?
    I will appreciate every answer!
    Thanks a lot!

Hi! I will take NCLEX this Friday. I bought a NCLEX question and answer book that is just on pharmacology questions! It is called "Pharmacology Made Easy for NCLECX-RN" by Linda Waide and Berta Roland. It cost $22 and was published in 2001. It has a light purple cover with white letters. Each chapter focuses on a system of the body and asks you multiple choice questions relating to meds treating diseases/conditions affecting that system. I think it is a great book to practice pharm! Good luck to you!

From my personal experience and from posts that I read on here, in my opinion pharmacology is not highly stressed. The NCLEX focuses on priority and I had only 1 med question. I know people who had 265 questions and only had a couple drug questions.

Thanks for that tip! I'll read up on those too.

Any other tips for how to study pharm for the NCLEX? I feel like that's one of my weak areas but I just have no idea where to even start, there's just way too many meds to know!

Any other suggestions or tips on how you studied meds for the NCLEX?

    Thanks everyone!

Be carefull and study the most important meds and side effects :, nur. intervention, because my friend took the boards 2 weeks ago and she failed because she didn't prepare herself for the drugs. She got all pharmacology Q.
I know it is CAT adaptive if they will find out you don't know meds or your weak area of knowledge you can fail....

    Hello,
I took boards in May and passed with 75 questions, the big thing with meds is to know your classifications and SE. I had questions like Pt "X" orders are... which one would you question? No Dx was given so you had to figure out which one would be harmful if given with the others.

Tip for the day... most meds ending in lol= beta blocker exp: Atenolol. Most meds ending in pril=ace inhibitors exp:Lisinopril.

The meds that you see on NCLEX are the major ones. Make sure to look at psych meds I had a few of them too. There may be some questions that mention meds, but meds are not the true focus of the question. I hope this helps
    Good luck to you all,
    LaVonne, RN
