here's the skinny on my NCLEX

well, first off I thought I was going to throw up both before and after I took this test. I had a total of 75 questions. About 80% were what would u do first and who would u see first. the rest was: 4 pick all that apply and then the remaining were isolation, disaster, and 3meds, and a few others.... I left feeling like a complete idiot, I don't have a good feeling right now, I felt that I guessed with more then half and I've been studying for 1 month solid about 5hrs day, and doing about 3000 questions and I still feel like a idiot.

I am still waiting for my ATT to schedule my test date for the RN Nclex exam but what you describe is exactly how I felt for my LPN boards. I felt like I guessed on so many. I did pass with the minimum questions though. Just to let you know that someone else felt exactly as you do and I studied hard and was an honors student. lol The test can make you doubt yourself something awful.

Good luck! Remember that both passing and failing candidates tend to get about 50% of the questions right, so guessing on every other question isn't as bad as you think it is. Let us know what happens.

Crzmomof3boys,
What you are feeling is SO REAL and so NORMAL. I had the same test you described, I left feeling like I knew NOTHING and guessed on EVERYTHING and guess what I must have known something because as of yesterday I am an RN!!!!! My gut feeling from what you described of your test you will be one soon

Hi, I hope you pass!

I took NCLEX on 6/14 and was cut off after 75 questions. The questions were tough and packed with clinical content. They were getting more and more difficult up until I reached the 60s, then they evened out. Most were on prioritization of assessments/discharge, etc. 6-7 were "select all that apply", lots on pediatrics, lots on infection control/infectious diseases. I had no math questions, unfortunately, because it is easy for me... I think I was the only one who walked out of the exam feeling that I did OK (and I did - I passed!). Given that I am a book-smart nerd, my friends/family weren't surprised...

To prepare, I took Sally Lagerquist (Review for RNs; she is the editior of Davis NCLEX book) review and then studied and did practice questions ad nauseam. Additionally I purchased 3 weeks of NCLEX learning extention (learningext.com) tutorial, which was extremely helpful!!! It has lots of great practice questions and content review.

I had to take HESI back in February and scored very highly in it; it is supposed to be an acurate predictor of passing/failing NCLEX.

SOOOO glad it's over and now I am enjoying my last few weeks of freedom before I start my first REAL RN job in a big MSICU in San Francisco.

Good luck!
