Guatemalan Foreign Nurse Passed Nclex-Rn at First Try with 124Q

Nursing Students NCLEX

I'm writing this to ALL the people that wants to pass Nclex....

You Can Do This! The key: Being Positive all the time!

It doesn't matter if your primary language was not English. .. if you remember your basics and how to critically think... you would be good!

My background: 28 years old. RN with 6 years of experience in my country as a Primary Care Rn. Nurse Midwife. Case Manager. HIV Coordinator.

If you see my strength wasn't hospital or content wise..... In fact i'm not passionate about hospital (is my opinion) In my work I had to make a lot of decisions, because we had a lot of necessities to cover in our population, but we didn't had the necessary resources to fulfill them. When I came here 3 years ago. I was devastated because I had to wait for a class opening (psych). Those 3 years really throw. Me down, because i got used to "think inside the box". I had everything I needed in my hands. I didn't need to invent a way to open a hard lid.... we had a lid opener. ... etc.

When finally I passed psych at ELAC on spring 2013. I saw the talented nurses that Our County has (USA). I got very intimidated because I saw that here Hospital was the strength. So. I started preparing myself for Nclex.

I'm an audio and visual learner. I can't study by myself. I need to have a partner to study. So I did find a couple friends to study with. I studied with them in different settings (online. At starbucks, on the beach etc) With one of my friends, I went to her house and studied the Kaplan RN Course Book. She is very good at content. And she explained to me and I heard.

My other partner was very cool too! We gathered at Starbucks some nights and did the Remar Review -Remar review was super for me because before doing this review I had the filing that I was reading only to fullfill the time to study, But the information was not sticking in my mind. After Remar Review I was SOOOO confident to do nclex style questions. I had the base of knowledge with Remar review- I SCHEDULE MY TEST 30 days after the review and I practice Q on saunders, pda,and the Qtrainer 3.4.5.6.7 that is circulating in the Web site.... during that time.

I posted in my front door: "God has the perfect timing, without Him we are nothing" So I did encomended myself to Him.

When the test day came I felt secure, I dress like i was going to a job interview. I listen to zumba music and I kept saying. ... It's only a test If I fail I can repeat it again... 124 q later..... here I am. My license number appeared in the rn.ca.gov 30 hours after my nclex.

If I did it! You also can! It doesn't matter how many times you test. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Sorry.i think I can't empty my inbox... the system is not letting me do it. I have to use my pc.. later today or tomorrow

Hello mali_santizo , congratulations for your achievement, thank you for sharing your story with us. I'm a foreign nurse too. I'm from Peru, and like you, I was working in a community health center, I was in charge of immunization program, teenager program and TBC program. I moved here 3 years ago, At the beginning the most difficult part for me was the language. Fortunately little by little my fluency and comprehension in English improved. Now I can say I'm a bilingual (Spanish and English). I'm currently doing the steps to get the license here in MD. I'm going to take the ILA-OPI interview in a few weeks. I hope everything goes well. Then comes the harder part NCLEX- RN. You really gave me a lot of hope and encouragement that I can do it. Thank you so much!!!!!! and I will really appreciate if you can give more details about your studying methods or more tips that can help me in the test. My e-mail is [email protected]
