First 10 questions?????

Students NCLEX

Published

Hey everyone,

Getting ready for my board soon, just like everyone else. I am doing Kaplan. I have been getting high 50s to low 60s on the qbank questions. I have read a few posts and people have mentioned that if u get the first 6 or first 10 questions correct you will be good on NCLEX since the first few questions are passing level questions. My concern is this: I have never gotten the first 10 all correct. Like my qbank test i did yesterday, I got the first 4 questions wrong, but got a 64 on it. AM I DOOMED??????? Sometimes it varies though, I may get the first 5 right then bomb the next few questions.

Any advice or words of reassurance are always welcomed.

Good luck to everyone preparing!!!!!

The thing about the first 10 questions is to go as slow as possible and think them out. They're the ones that will put you above or below the passing level right out of the gate.

You want to aim to get them correct if possible. However (and I took boards yesterday and noticed that I likely got the first 5 correct then got an easier question then was likely all over the place), the biggest thing is not to rush them.

You aren't doomed. Just go slow. :-)

Nerves means it's working! ;-)

You've totally got this. Also remember if you go past 75 questions that isn't a bad thing!! My Kaplan teacher said kiss the computer for every other question you get since it means you're still in the game. I know girls who failed and passed with 75 questions. It doesn't mean an auto pass like some people might say. Also getting to 265 isn't awful it just means you're still in the game and it's exhausting. Lol.

For example, I got around 120 questions and took 3 hours to do it. I also took 3 unscheduled 5 minute breaks for water, snacks, and bathroom since I have hypoglycemia. :-)

thanks for the positive word, much needed!!!!!

Definitely be slow and careful with all your questions but especially the first few. I tend to take tests very quickly (I'm a fast reader) and made sure to slow myself down. I still finished in about 45 minutes with 75 questions and thought I'd failed because it was too fast. I did pass though and I know many in my class have gotten 75-265 and are all passing. Just focus on each question and try not to worry which question you're on. Good luck!

But don't take too much time. I thought that on my first attempt and said hey I got six hours well bad idea. I ended up having 265 questions and almost not making it within 6hours plus I failed cause I was so fatigued from sitting there for so long. Take your time but not too much because aside from fatigue you could over think the question.

yes this is true!!!!, i was just mentioning that to my friend. And I definitely don't want to be in the situation of running out of time, b/c it will only screw me in the end....Thanks
