Failed NCLEX with Kaplan..bummed

Nursing Students NCLEX

I was so confident going into this test today! I scored a 66 on readiness, my scores were all in the upper 50's to mid 60's and I felt ready. I walked in with a positive attitude and read to go...but that's not how it went. I got question after question of meds I have never seen before and had no idea what class they were in, a crap load of questions that i had no clue where to even go with them, and it seemed like the kaplan strategy didn't apply to any of them! I tried the decision tree, comma comma and, outcomes, do one thing and go home, and none of it helped!! I didn't get any questions that were similar to kaplan until i was shocked at a basic assessment question which triggered my knowledge of "oh my god..i have got to be sucking for them to ask me this!" I got all 265 ?'s and it took me 5.45 hours because i tried so hard to apply kaplans strategy. I loved Kaplan when I was studying it, I got the concepts and mastered the decision tree and felt really good about it. This was my second attempt and the same number of questions. Does anyone else have any good study tips that won't cost me $418, because I really can't afford to throw more money away :(

Don't give up, if you can identify that you panicked then give yourself permission to move on. I would definitely test again.

I failed the first time with Kaplan, but I figured out what was wrong, and during that wait period of getting my results i previewed Hurst and signed up for NCSBN, they were not good; NCSBN was purely content and had little emphasis on NCLEX style questioning, Hurst was just not working for me. I called Kaplan, and suggest you do the same, and ask for an extension. I was granted 2 extensions, the first for 30 days and the second for an extra 3 days until my exam.

My advice is when you get your results, see where you scored Near passing and Below passing, compare that with the Trainer 5 6 and 7 analysis and see if they're consistent, if they are then i'd focus on those. Do you have the kaplan content review guide? That's what I used to focus on studying for my second shot at NCLEX. I also found that doing trainers with a partner helped, we'd pick our answers individually and put our pencils down to indicate we were done, and before moving to the next question discuss why we chose our answer. I hope this helps! Good luck and stay positive! it's the last exam you have to take before you become an R.N. :)

If you can get up to Massachusetts DEFINITELY sign up for Don Anderson. He makes the

Kaplan Group look a tad lamel

I've waiting about 2 years before even attempting my first try at the nclex Ive had alot going on in my life since Ive graduated not to mention not working to be able to pay for the test. :( I just took it and found I failed it. In those 2 and a half years Ive studied and studied and studied. I will be going back to test in 45 days. I am sooo frustrated I want to cry. :((

Did you ever retest?

Hi, Don't worry in your next exam you will pass that's for sure. I am taking my exam in september and I feel like my knowledge is still not enough.
