failed nclex-rn 3x

Hi seeking help! I have taken boards 3x and been unsuccessful. I lost my job today because of my results. I really thought I was really prepared this time. I had many select all, and 50% of my test was on meds, and onology. I am depress and beginning to think that becoming a rn is just not in Gods plan for me. I am lost and unsure as to what directons to go in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

Hello,

What has been your study / test taking strategy thus far? If we know, we may be able to better direct you.

I am also a new grad. I took and passed the NCLEX earlier this month. Still looking for that job, though.

My study strategy was:

1. Get a good review book. Pay special attention to any tables, lists, starred items, etc. in your review book.

2. Take many, many, many practice questions. I had a program called "NCLEX 3500" for my computer. I think this was invaluable. It allowed me to take numerous computer questions and gave instant feedback (when in "Review" mode). The feedback gave me the correct answer and the rationale for the correct answer. It also explained why the other answers were wrong.

3. Once you've taken enough practice questions, you'll probably have a pretty good handle on what your trouble areas are (meds, lab values, pathophysiology, nursing process, etc.). Make (and use!) flashcards that cover this material.

4. Schedule your test for your most productive time of day for YOU. If you are not a morning person, do not schedule your test for 8:00AM.

5. The night before the test, get plenty of rest.

6. The morning of the test make sure to eat a well balanced breakfast.

7. Be confident that you know the answer. Many times the first answer you pick will be the correct one. Try not to spend too much time changing answers.

I hope this is helpful!

-Valerie

Advice from a nursing professor that I found to be very helpful was to take as many practice questions as you can. Any questions you miss (or got lucky on), make a notecard with the answer and rationale on the back. It can help you identify your weaker areas and plus you can carry them around with you anywhere and quiz yourself. Good luck, please don't give up!! You WILL pass and become a wonderful nurse!

What have you done to prepare? Well if you havent tried it, Kaplan worked for me. Kaplan shows you how to take the test but does not got over content. I'm sure you know the stuff, you just need to know how to take the test. The great thing about kaplan is that if you don't pass, you get your money back GUARANTEED!!!! Thats how confident they are that you will pass the test.

One of my professors took her's 4x and she is an excellent professor. She currently has her Ph.D has won many awards for her work. I know you are discourage but PLEASE do not give up.
