Heard from another nurse that 1 in 4 students will fail the first attempt at the nclex.... this goes for PN and RN....
When I look at the quarterly pass rates for the BON this doesn't seems to be correct.
So... I'm Curious....

Took mine (RN) in June 2010 (2 months after the change) and passed on the first try.

I graduated here in the Philippines and applied to Texas. I failed my first attempt. I know 7 people who took NCLEX that graduated in the PH and 3 failed. It's hard to put an exact number on it though but I think the problem here is they have a different licensure exam here than in the states and most people think it'll be the same and don't prepare accordingly.

I would say all the rates ans statisitcs don't matter except your own result

Here in Arizona, the pass rates are better... its more like 1 in 10 will fail the first attempt. What about your state?:-)
What about your state?
The NCLEX is a NATIONAL exam---it is the same whether you take in in Arizona, Maine or Alaska!!!

Yes it is a national exam, but the statistics of pass rates differ per state, even per school. These numbers are typically available on your BON.

Kabayan, not true at all. AS stated by others, the exam is national and the same exam is the same in CA, FL and the other 48 states. The national exam is also the same exact one if one were to take it in their own respective country. This is a standardized examination so that it does not discriminate anyone.
The problem as far as those in other countries, but here speaking mainly from those from the Phils is that we're not taught the "critical thinking" process that's required from the NCLEX exams. It's one thing to be taught and understand "practical" thinking, but there's more to that.
This is why according to the CHED's own admission (CHED=an arm of the Phils nursing governing body), that the low rate of passing students taking the NCLEX-RN for the first time stands below 50% (more like 43%) and recent CA BON nursing surveys reflects the same low passing rate (of international students). This rate is so low that if these same schools were in the States they would most likely be shut down.
In fact, any school in the states would also be subjected to the same thing (school closure) if their school's NCLEX-RN passing rate is just as low.

So far everyone I know personally and graduated with in May has passed the NCLEX on their first attempt. I have heard of one person that graduated with us that I didn't know who did not pass but our school typically has excellent pass rates and I won't be surprised if we're above 95% this year.

I passed my LPN boards last year on the first attempt and just took my RN boards today so don't know pass or fail yet but I got the good pop-up! Everyone that has taken it from my class so far has passed and my school has like a 95-98% 1st attempt pass rate. Or did before the passing standard went up.
Took my test yesterday, and my license is active as of today! Passed 1st try!
