Depression After taking NCLEXon August 10th

Students NCLEX

So I took my nclex exam today. I studied for 4 weeks. I utilized kaplan and listened to the Feuer lectures only. I did all the every single qbank question. Remediated every one I got wrong. Redid the questions I got wrong. Reviewed content on kaplan. Took the exam today and went all the way through 261 questions and then the computer shuts off. I had tons of prioritization questions and maternity questions. I would the most of my exam was prioritization questions (I think I had at least 80-100 of those). I did the Pearson Vue Trick to see if I passed but it was allowing to to re-register. After doing that, I'm so depressed right now. I was accepted into a RN-BSN program and they need the licensure by enrollment. I really wanted to start this BSN program this September. I'm not sure what they'll say when I tell them I wasn't successful and if they'll give me another chance to retake while I'm in the program. So freaking depressed. It's not a joke.

I suspect that the fact that you went 261 questions before it shut off is that you don't have a content problem but rather a problem or issue answering/picking apart NCLEX questions. At this point, you've seen the NCLEX and you know how it tests you. If it was hammering you on maternity and delegation, you probably were a bit weak in those areas, but not so weak or strong that you were definitively unable to pass or fail. Of course that very well could be simply that you weren't able to adequately pick apart those questions and figure out exactly what the question was really asking you so that you could answer the question appropriately.

You are given 6 hours to finish up to 265 questions. That means you'd finish "on time" at about 6 hours if you answered one question approximately every 80 seconds. So if you were going at that pace, you would have stopped at 5 hours, 48 minutes into the exam. If you took 45 seconds per question that's a LOT faster...

If you are a very fast test taker like I am, you run a very significant risk of reading a question too quickly and missing words that probably result in you selecting an incorrect answer. I have been guilty of doing that myself, occasionally leading to "stupidly" selecting another wrong answers that would cost me a letter grade. Some of these questions upon reflection literally were the "stupid mistake" type of answer where I actually knew the correct answer but I chose the wrong one because I read the question wrong.

Wait for the CPR report to come to you, see what it has to say about your performance. In the meantime, I suggest that you go back and do some questions but instead of answering them for content, look for keywords and phrases that relate to the answer that is correct or incorrect so that you can better decide which way to answer the question that is actually being asked. This requires that you slow down and read the question thoroughly before answering the question. If your problem is truly not one of content but rather one of misreading the question, this method may actually help you improve your chances of passing next time. Hopefully you will be able to take the exam again before you enter the RN – BSN program that you were hoping to get into. If they are not able to accommodate you this semester, hopefully they will be able to save a seat for you and allow you to enter next semester or next year without too much difficulty.

Good luck!

Thanks for your insight and encouragement. I'll just have to wait for the CPR to come and re-strategize from there on. Truly appreciate it very much!
