Can I still work?

I'm taking the NCLEX-RN on Sept 8th and I am going to pay for Quick Results. Does it show in the results a license number or something, or just whether I passed or not. Can you work if you don't physically have the license? Or do you need to wait however long it takes until you get an actual license?

i think it just says pass or fail !! there is another trick .. the pearson vue.. hopefully someone will explain how that works !! good luck to you !! you will slay the NCLEX beast !!! please keep us posted !!

Check with your board of nursing. Some states allow you to get a temporary license and work as a "graduate nurse" until you get your official license. Unless things have recently changed the scores go to your state BON then they issue the license-that can take a few weeks.

most of the time HR wants a physical copy of your license on file....or at least that's been the cases with the jobs I have worked at. I have a NY license and it took about 3 weeks from the date I passed the NCLEX to get the actual thing in the mail

In Missouri, our school gave us a letter stating we were GNs so HR departments would let us work while awaiting the licensure exam. I take mine September 1st! :)

I guess I just need to call SC Board of Nursing to ask about temporary licensing, etc... to see when I can work. Because i told the employer I'm testing on the 8th and will find out my results (quick results) on the 10th and I want to work on the 13th. She was happy with that... but I didn't know that I might not be able to work unless I had an actual license. I'll call HR there too and find out. It's be nice if I could work before I got my actual license.

SC doesn't send copies of licences anymore. Its all online. Your license number will pop up online once it is in the system if you do a license verification search on the website. This is recent. I got my license when I moved there in Dec 2009 and when I renewed this spring, no more physical licenses. Maybe you can pay for one but it would be superfluous, HR just needs to do the online license lookup. Hope this helps - so its actually to your benefit because as soon as it hits the SC BON system you'll have an offical license number (or a temporary one, as I got as my endorsement app was going through)

Really?? This is great!! I wonder how quickly after they receive the results will the license number be available..hmmm...

But this is definitely better :) THanks! I think everything is ready for my license.. the only thing pending online for my application is the NCLEX exam and Supervisor.

I'm from PA, so it may be different here... I took the NCLEX and instead of paying the "quick results" fee, or trying the "Pearson Vue Trick", I simply logged on the the PA BON site that day and then the next day to check my status.

I had a GN license. If you are taking NCLEX for the 1st time and have a GN license, when you pass, your license status will say "null and void". If you fail your GN status will say "expired" b/c it expires when you get your results. This info was listed the day after and my friends status' also changed w/in 2 days. It still took about 1-2 more days for my RN license to appear on the website.

Technically, you can work as soon as your license is verifiable, which is done through the BON website. I also have a TX RN license. You only get 1 in your lifetime, so it has no exp date printed on it. The renewal is verified online and you can print a copy from the web.

Anyways, my advice to you is to wait the 2 days nd check the BON site BEFORE shelling out the extra cash for quick results; especially if you have a GN license. I got the same results in the same amt of time but w/o paying the extra fee. :) Just my :twocents:

We didn't get a graduate nurse license... but I'll try checking the BON first to see. if it's not there then I'll pay the $7.95 for the Quick Results :) Thanks for the advice! :)

Some states are fast at getting the results up. I am in MA and I was able to see I passed on the BON website even before quick results were available.

Yea depends on the state. I have to say here in AZ i tested mon, results posted tuesday on BON website, license in mailbox wed. QUICK....and efficient. And to think i almost paid the fee to find out in two days.
