Updated Oct 29, 2008 at 12:28 PM by Studyinghard2bLPN

I've tried a couple of times to pass the boards. I've been out of school for 4yrs now. I took the boards and failed, got discouraged and never went back...3yrs later trying so hard to study and raise a family and Pass!!! I'm studying the Hurst Review, but every thing seems so foriegn to me....What can i do to get back in the habit. I want to take the NCLEX in Dec, but b4 the new year is that enough time?

I took the exam last year. I can take it again. In the sate of NY you can take it as many times as you like until you pass.

As long as you feel prepared and you pay any fees and have ATT then you could look to December but don't rush

YES YOU CAN PASS!!! Did you read my post from earlier today? I've been out of school for 12 years and I passed. Let me tell you, it was very hard for me to get motivated to study and I felt overwhelmed alot. But it was all my fault, I kept thinking why did I wait so long to take the test? And that negative thinking was holding me down and making me feel useless and like a failure. Then I purchased Kaplan's strategies book, its a good tool to help you get back in the swing of things. If you can, get the book and take it very slow when reading and doing the practice questions. Don't let it overwhelm you. Just a little at a time. Just think... we wasted alot of precious time not taking the exam so why rush to study now and think we can pass it? We have to invest study time. But just take it slow. I only read a little at a time and carried on with the rest of my life. I didn't study for hours at a time like alot of the people have posted, that would have driven me nuts! After 12 years of doing nothing, I felt I owed it to myself to finish what I started no matter what. So even if you don't pass it the next time, keep taking it. Just don't freeze up and let this test get the best of you...after all it is only a test. You can conquer the test, get the book if you can. Positive thinking goes a long way. I too had become discouraged and wanted to give up, but if I passed nursing school I knew deep down I had what it take to pass one last exam. Just keep on going you will make it.

I graduated in 1989 from my nursing program in Canada and have worked almost exclusively in psychiatry since then. I passed the NCLEX on Oct.17/08. I took 3 months off to study and was almost paralyzed by anxiety the day of the exam. I did Kaplan and Saunders and it worked. Hang in there, you can do it!
