Can you share some of your study habits? I'm working right now and I don't know how I can manage studying and working. It's stressful. Any tips???

Hello! I just passed NCLEX. I am a foreign educated nurse. I took it last Feb 05, 2009. Stopped @ 75


I have no review center but unlike you I don't have any work. For the time table, you have to really assess your pace first. What worked for me may not work for you.
I suggest you do Suzanne's plan too 'coz it's very practical and simple. It won't cost much too because you only have to get the Saunders book. I did the first and second tips but I read the whole book of Saunders too and added a few materials.

And please remember to pray and ask the Lord for wisdom. I know I did not do it alone. I know the Lord was with me the whole time I was reviewing and even during the exam day. I know it's stressful but just relax and don't forget to rest.

Okay --I gotta ask--I am not a new grad--took my NCLEX back in 2003 and passed after 75 questions on the first try and studied on my own-- other then the session my school had with some review person......like a 6 hour thing. What in the world is "Suzanne's Plan"????? I have seen so many people here talking about it and have no idea what this is! LOL
I will say that I took about a month and studied everyday for most of the day with breaks every couple of hours--for like 10-15 minutes to get up and walk around and get something to drink, etc. I studied at school in the library and at home sometimes-- I did one system at a time.....and did all the questions I could get my hands on for that system and read all the explainations they gave for why the right answer was right and why the wrong answers were wrong--if I still didn't understand I would pull out my text books-- I used also a pathophys book called Real World Nursing Survival Guide--they have a whole series on lots of things--and I found that book really clear and easy to understand. I used Saunders the review book and the book of questions and I think Davis's questions book --use more then one author for the questions books as I found that they each had a different approach or spin on things so I did both. Huge thing--remember your ABC's ALWAYS and your nursing process and triage concepts--you know, you have 4 patients here is the deal with each one, which one do you need to see first? that kind of thing and also deligation--what can an RN delegate to an LPN, to a CNA that kind of thing. I don't know if it's just that I studied the right way--must be as I am not stupid but am no genius either! lol--because I had only 75 questions and didn't find the exam to be really all that hard. --oh and try not to read more into a question then is there.... and basic normals for common lab values....I had a few of those......the electrolytes, blood values--HCT, etc. and common interventions--like EKG is usually done with a high K+, NS hung for a low Na+ and maybe even oral Na+ tabs......and when to call a doc..........things like so and so happens what do you do first? Stop the blood, flush with saline, call the doc or just document that the patient is c/o itching and is slightly febrile during the blood infusion....that what do you do first and the choices are an intervention or two call the doc or just monitor type of thing......I had lots of those.
Well those are my thoughts.........sorry they are so disorganized........stream of thought here! LOL Hope it helps and good luck........

Suzanne is one of the moderators on here and she devised a really good study plan which has had a very good pass rate. First part of her plan can be found in the stickies on the main NCLEX forum page the second part is not discussed as per her wishes

Im interested in taking up Suzanne's plan but I don't know where to start. Still not decided which state to take the NCLEX.

It is not a point of deciding which state to sit the NCLEX for, but should be determined by where you are wishing to work. One does not apply for the NCLEX exam directly, but must get approval from that specific state to sit for it.
