I thought I would give a little bit of advice to the people who are going to be taking the NCLEX soon. I took it on 8/17 and I had 114 questions. I Found out today that I passed!
I cannot understand how people say that they actually sit and study all day long. Every day since July 1, I tried to do 80-100 questions a day. And then the past few weeks I was doing 100-150. SOme days though I would have a hangover and not do as much but that was only a handful of times. I made sure that I went out and had FUN while I was preparing to take the test. If you don't do this, I think you'll just go crazy haha. It helped keep me sane thats for sure!!
The questions that were most like the NCLEX were the Kaplan ones.. definitely! Everything else was just wayyyy too easy. And the Kaplan questions were the same style as the NCLEX. Kaplan would ask the questions like ... "You get a phone call from 4 patients and who do you see first", or "You just came out of report... who would you see first."
I think the Kaplan review course helped me IMMENSELY! I would reccomend it to EVERYONE. It sucks paying the $500 for the course but its basically a guarantee! If you fail the NCLEX then you will get the money back and you'll use $200 to pay for the test again, and then you'll have $300 in your pocket. And then you will have all the knowledge of what the nclex was like and you'll undrestand the questions and all that. $500 was a small investment, compared to what we had to pay to get through nursing school!!
As for reviewing material... I noticed that I was missing a lot of TPN questions so I went back and read about TPN. And also same with endocrine and insulin. But I did not try to go back and read everrryyy single thing I learned in school.
I prayed A LOT! And I had faith that I would pass. I actually used "The Secret" which is a book by Rhonda Bynes about the law of attraction and anything that you think you can do ... you WILL do. So I pictured myself passing and I knew in my heart I would pass. Its a very good book.. and i would suggest anyone who is planning to take the test to read it. It will give you the motivation you need to bleieve in yourself and help you understand that your fate is in your hands.. not anyone elses.
When I walked out of the test I seriously thought I failed. But I just kept praying and picturing myself with an RN license in my hand.
