Info on Bozeman

My husband received a job offer at Bozeman.

Does anyone have info on Bozeman Deaconness Hosp?

Does the town have a lot of activities for little kids especially indoor activities during the cold months?

How's the school system?

What's the crime situation?

Is is still possible to find reasonably priced housing in good safe area?

Are people friendly to new folks?

Is it mostly a liberal vs conservative town?

I heard the university is a party-school. Is it true and if yes, does it bleed over to the community?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Its a Level 3 trauma center - which means that anything really bad gets flown to Billings or Salt Lake, still its very high acutiy and the L&D dept is always hopping. I worked there for almost 2 years and really like it. The hospital is usually always full and busy and the staff is pretty good to work with (the ER specifically).

One of the best things about MT is the fun outdoor activites year round. THere is a big sledding hill in town (Pete's hill) and is really close to two world class ski resorts (Bridger Bowl, and Big Sky). My advice is if you are "indoor people" then Montana is not your state to live in. If you do decide to move there then plan on having a big house and build your own play room. THe whole point of living in the most pretty state in the world is to enjoy it. That's what snow suites are for!!!

How's the school system?
Lots of elementary schools. I think they're pretty good. ONe big high school in Bozmean. Belgrade isn't too far away (8mile) and there is a high school there as well.

What's the crime situation?
Not really existant. I lived there for 6 years in all different parts of the city and it was safter than many of the other small rez towns around. If there is anything going on its dumb high school kids and its pretty harmless.

Is is still possible to find reasonably priced housing in good safe area?
What's your definition of resonably priced? A two bedroom condo will rent for around $1000/month. A house will be more. All of bozeman is safe really. Its small family subdivision heaven....they are everywhere.

Are people friendly to new folks?
As long as you don't mention that you're from California : ) haha...there are alot of folks from out of state in Bozeman. Being a college town its kind of a melting pot. If you're friendly and not stuck up, folks will be friendly to you. If you act like we're a bunch of rednecks and are uneducated we will treat you with the same respect. I think that goes with anyone anywhere.

Is it mostly a liberal vs conservative town?
Most of Montana is conservative. (don't let our Democrat governer fool you) Towns like Missoula are ultra liberal. Bozeman is kinda leaning that way, mostly because of the rich out of staters that move there. If you're conserv. or liberal I'm sure if you look around you'll find the type of folks that you want to be with in that regard.

I heard the university is a party-school. Is it true and if yes, does it bleed over to the community?
What university isn't a party school? Seriously? Yes the downtown bars get to be hopping on the weekend evenings but what town over the population of 10 dosent? The community is a great place to settle and raise family. Its frickin beautiful all year round. If the "party" bleeds in to the community, then you've ventured into that section of the community that enjoys such a life style . If that's not your thing, then you won't have any trouble avoiding that. Yea the large amout of MVA are alcohol related, but that's MT in general.
