PDA's

I was wondering if anyone uses a PDA for nursing school? I have some software that came with my books that say I can install them on my PDA (etc, Davis' Drug Guide Book). Is there a specific type of PDA you have to use? Where can I get one? Are they really helpful and would you recommend using them? What do you use them for?

Thanks!

I have a Palm Treo and have Epocrates on it. Epocrates has a free version that is very good. You can update it often, for free, also. I used it while working and as an instructor....much lighter and less bulky than a med book.... There are also other nursing programs you can get that are helpful.

I have a Palm, and I have RN constellation on it, and I add something to it every time I get a few extra dollars (Davis drug guide, Tabers, IV book, lab test book, basically my own little bookshelf in a pocket...). Before you buy, go out to skyscape and see what they've got available for what platform, that should help you decide what to buy, too. I know you can get it for a Windows based platform, like a HP PDA, and you can also get stuff for the Apple iTouch. Figure out what you want, first, then pick the platform.

After all, my screen name does start with "nerd...."

Nerd already pretty much said it.

Just watch out. PDA use soon lead to PDS - PDA Dependancy Syndrome. A few times I've forgotten mine and called my poor wife in a panic begging her to bring it to the ER. She understands, because she doesn't like to work without hers, either.

She uses a Pocket PC (Windows based); I use a Palm OS device.

Skyscape may be the single best vendor for programs, at least through school. After that, you can explore the other offerings out there (Medical Wizards, etc.). You may even find friends writing specific applications and sharing them. My partner on my flight job wrote a nice application for setting up our ventilated patients.

Watch out! PDS has a very fast onset!
