PDA for Nursing Student

by KXMc65

Hi there,
I've read a lot of these threads and have gotten a lot of good info. I have a couple of things I still am unsure about.

1. Are there any non-phone PDA's still being built/used out there?
2. Is the Palm TX compatible with Windows Vista OS? (Saw one quick blurb that it might not be...)
3. Are there any phone-PDA's that are better than others and don't have a camera?
4. Is it mostly the camera feature that some clinical sites won't allow, or is it the phone as well?
5. If I go with a phone, is screen size an important factor?
6. Also if I go with a phone, do I have to set it up as a phone to use it, or can I just use it as a PDA and not have the phone service?

Thanks in advance for the help!
Ken!

1) The Palm TX is available through Amazon & other vendors. Not sure about other brands of PDAs.

2) I'm using Win XP on both my computers, and have no desire to use Vista. Googling "palm TX windows vista" gave these hits from Palm talking about the TX & Vista:

www.palm.com/us/support/windowsvista/index.html

www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk62.html

3) I dunno.

4) Some clinical sites don't like cell phones (not sure if it's due to concerns with interference with medical devices or something else).

5) I would think so. Even with my Palm TX's decent size screen, some tables of info in the Nursing Central software package require you to scroll right/left, up/down to view the table. It would probably be even more of a pain if you have a small screen on a phone.

6) I dunno. I'd think that you could use it as just a PDA, but am not sure.

check out the Ipod Touch... it sounds like it would give you many resources/options that you are looking for w/o the concerns about a phone or camera to complicate things.
