iPhone/iPod Touch apps for nurses?

by dreavt

I am starting my first RN job as a new grad on Aug 10 -- the 1st 2 days are "general orientation" for ALL new employees. Word is that large amounts of it will not apply to me, and I've been advised to bring something subtle to kill time. I'll probably bring my iPod Touch which does have a few time-killing apps (Scramble anyone?) on it, but I would love to use the time to brush up on nursing stuff -- A&P, pathophysiology, pharmacology, lab values, etc. Any nurse-y apps I should look for? I will be working on an inpatient hem/onc unit, if that helps.

Thank you!

I have a Med Calc one but I've never actually used it at work because most of it doesn't apply to neo.

You should go to Unboundmedicine.com. They have tons of apps for Blackberry's and iPhones for sale. Check out the Nursing Central app, I bought it and use it all the time at work. It is awesome!!!!!

Wow, this is good to know. I will let my aunt and sister who are both nurses know about this. Hopefully, I 'll need it soon!

Epocrates, Med Calculator (I have two of them- Mediquations and Medical Calculator), Units (converter), stop watch (already installed), Quick Bones (taking graduate anatomy), Eponyms, DiagnasarausDDx (for NP school), MedCards, and I also use the included calculator at work a lot.

Love Re: iPhone/iPod Touch apps for nurses?
Congratulations!

Hey just got a 16GB iTouch a few weeks ago. LOOOOOVE IT. Right away I got the Free version: epocrates, Medcalc, Eponyms. Paid: Davis Drug Guide (excellent). I'm thinking about iAnesthesia LLC and Instant ECG. Check those out! I'd love a disease app. and know epocrates has it, but no way am I gonna pay that kind of cash for the full version.

Anybody have: pathophys, disease/conditions apps that are really good?

I have to agree that the applications from Unbound Medicine are the way to go. I have downloaded both the Nursing Central app and the Diagnosaurus (just $0.99) and it gives me everything I need.

Love Re: iPhone/iPod Touch apps for nurses?
I'd love to get that grouping. A little too much money for me right now, think it's like $160. If all goes well, next year I'll get the that bundle. I do have a great pathophys book, will lug it around a while longer!

Don't forget to to save the receipts on any app you use @ work--tax deductable!!!

If you're in MCH, look for an app called "Jaundice"--it's my fave!
