question about PDA software

  1. hi, i just bought a palm tx and i have a question about the nursing software that i plan to buy.

i understand that i don't actually get the software in the mail, i just download it online, right? and most subscriptions expire within a year.
now what would happen if i lose/destroy my pda in 1.5 years and i want to install the software (that i paid for!) on a new pda. or i might lose/destroy the memory card with the nursing software. and i read somewhere else about skyscape only allowing software installation on one computer. what happens if i get new computer?

I've done this. When you first sync a new PDA, it asks you to name the PDA (in case you'd be synching multiple PDA's on one computer). As long as you name your new pda the same as your old one, it doesn't care. If you're just changing memory cards, all you need to do is reinstall the software - no issue whatsoever. If you change computers, I think you have to go to the skyscape web site to change the computer that it's active on, but then you can re-download the application (as long as you're within the subscription period) without any issue.

As far as the subscriptions expiring, that just means that after the expiration date you won't get any updates. You'll still be able to use the programs.

Skyscape is very easy to work with if you have trouble. They helped me out.

i understand that, but would they let me download the program again let's say 6 month after the subscription expires in case anything would happen to my pda (e.g. i lose the pda and i would have to buy a new one, my pda crashes and i would have to reformat it)? i understand that i wouldn't get any more updates, but would i still be able to get the original program?

I suspect you could. I do know that right now, 6 months after I bought my first programs, I still can go back & download them if necessary. Theyare listed in my account, along withthe activation code. You can also get the programs sent to you on CDs. It costs a couple dollars more. Of course, if you have to reload them to another, you'd have to contact them so they could change the name & number of the PDA. I don't think (but may be wrong) that just naming your new PDA the same as your present one will do the trick. I think a number is assigned to each machine & they can tell where you are putting it. It's their way of preventing you from buying the program & sharing with friends.

thanks, that's what i'll do then. i'd much rather have a "hard copy" of the program at home, in case something happens.

sonja, there's no need to 1) wait for a cd in the mail and 2) pay for the extra expense.

when you download titles from skyscape they are single files. just copy these to a cd. same thing skyscape will do for you. the codes are stored online in your account with skyscape.
