Please help me (memory card and program installation)

  1. I got a PDA for Christmas (yay!) and I'm just working on getting everything set up now. It's a Tungsten E2 and I also got a 512MB SD card. I got a cd rom from skyscape.com, I'm not entirely sure what it's called (it just says Medical PDA Programs on the disc) but it has a TON of programs. I went about installing the ones I wanted today and when I got to Taber's, it's messing up. It takes a really long time to get through the installation (synching up) process and the log tells me that it failed because there may not be enough memory on my PDA. At this point, I stuck in the memory card and tried again. Same problem. Do I need to do something once I stick in the card? It's really frustrating me because I'm soooo incompetent when it comes to electronics and technology.

If anyone can help me out, I'd really appreciate it!

Hi there! Congrats on getting the E2! I'm really no wiz, but I know a little and thought that I would try to help. The E2 has 32MB of memory on it and Taber's with the pictures takes up about 44MB so it'll have to be placed on your memory card (unless you've chosen to load Taber's without the pictures which takes only 15MB). When you are loading it are you choosing to place it on the internal memory card instead of the SD card?

I also have Tabers and it also took a LONGGGG time to set up, and it takes a LONGGGGG time to load and search for anything. I really only use it as a last resort. I bought it a few months ago, and actually regret spending the $$ b/c it is such a slow program, even without a bunch of my memory taken up. I think just because it is so big (I mean, after all it's a dictionary, lol). I love Tabers Quick Lookup for my laptop, and only use the Tabers for my PDA if I am in a pinch and nowhere near my laptop.

Hmm, well there doesn't seem to be an option to load it onto the SD card when I go to put it on the PDA. I click on the install icon on my computer desktop and it says it hook up the PDA (which I do) and click the synch button and that's it.

Gahhh, it's frustrating me. I decided maybe I don't need Taber's after all (lol) but now whenever I try to synch anything else onto the PDA, it still says it's trying to synch Taber's and I don't know to tell my PDA to just forget about it, haha. So it won't load anything and it just gives me that error message about having no space. There is no icon or anything for Taber's on my PDA, it just keeps trying to synch

I'm so clueless. Everything else I loaded before Taber's worked perfectly and now I can't do anything.

Good reminder! Large programs always take a long time to load from the SD cards and coupled with the fact that the E2 has a 200MHz processor, things might move a bit slower. My Tabers' is in the internal memory of a Tungsten T5 (which has a 416MHz processor so things are pulled up much faster).

Honestly, as much as I love my PDA, technology can give me the hives! The only suggestion I have (hopefully someone will come up with a better one) is to take Taber's off your computer, synch once again (without Taber's), then reload Taber's. Then on your "palmOne Quick Install" icon, click on and open it then drag the Taber's down to the second window (it should say Expansion Card). Once this is done, synch again. I hope this will work.

I can't synch without Taber's though. I completely removed it from my computer and when I go to synch my PDA, it still says "Synchronizing DBTabers."

I tried going to the online support site and ended up trying a soft reset, a system reset, and an "almost hard" reset. It still didn't work. I'm considering just doing a hard reset and wiping everything off the PDA. I mean, I only got it today so it won't take me too long to reload the other programs. But I have a feeling this might happen again when I won't want to delete everything. It seems so ridiculous that just because I didn't have enough space for that particular program, it's going to keep trying to synchronize it until the end of time (haha, well it sure seems that way).

Today was the first time I've even SEEN a PDA, so I literally no nothing at all about how these things work. I just wanna throw it in the corner and not look at it now because it's really making me frustrated (I'm impatient when it comes to computers and things).

Okay, I officially should not be allowed around computers without someone around who knows what they're doing. I could have saved myself a lot of frustration.

But I solved the problem! I went to "Install tool" and deleted Taber's from the list. I feel like an idiot because that seems like the obvious first thing to do now, lol.

If you are still having problems contact the Tabers provider (Cogniq or Unbound). They are wonderful. I started having trouble with the 19th edition just after I started using it - just looking up words (like insulin) would cause fatal errors. Yikes! I called them and they said that my problem was unheard of but since it had only been about 3 months since purchase, they gave me the new 20th edition at no charge. In fact they emailed me a link and I just downloaded it from the internet.

And as far as speed in loading, using and syncing - I have no complaints. I have a Palm Tungsten T3.

    Good Luck! Alisha
