new palm user question

  1. I have just purchased a Palm TX.

Like it really well so far but Palm OS is brand new to me.

I loaded a PDB file onto the device using HotSynch.

Problem is now, how do I access the dictionary?

I have played with all options but can't find or access the file I loaded!

Do I need to add a reader or something?

    TIA

well u gotta first kno where u d/led it and then u gotta find it on the palm. i have the lifedrive but its palm os as well and we have icons on the desktop where u can control whats on ur palm by clicking on it and its like a window with all the files and what not and u just take the file u want and drag it on the screen and drop it where u want it. then a screen comes up and says "copy to device" then u do that it 10 seconds later it says available for use and u just go to where u dropped it on ur palm and then find it and click it and it opens up. if it doesnt, then an error comes up and tells u why not. this program im talking about that goes on ur desktop should be in ur box that u got and is the startup disk and u set it up with ur pc so u can hotsync and now. gl

Most dictionary programs I have seen do require a reader to view the dictionary (the place you purchased the dictionary from should have mentioned this). Sometimes the reader is included with the package but must be loaded separately and once on your PDA you run the program and it accesses the dictionary for you.

    Hope this helps,

I had loaded the PDB files to my expansion card.

I haven't used Palm OS before and didn't find a Windows Explorer equivalent and didn't see any icons.

I was able to transfer it successfully to the PDA, at least that is what the message on my comp said.

Sounds like my lack of reader software might be the issue.

    I will check that.

    Thanks for help!

Running programs from the expansion card can be problematic. I have a 1 gig expansion card in my Tungsten T5 and while I can load anything there, not everything will run from there. (It just depends on the software vendor whether they support running from the expansion card or not--it is not a Palm issue.)

To see the icon for installed software you should be able to hit the "House" icon button on the lower left hand side of your TX. You might need to press it twice. Check this and let us know if you can see icons.

What is the name of the dictionary you are trying to install and where did you purchase it?

    Regards,

    Ken

Hmm, loading it to the main memory did make it work.

It was a Spanish medical phrasebook I bought at Palmgear.com.

Also needed Isolo reader. I should have read the fine print. :chuckle
