The Fire has been rooted/jail broken already. Google it, it looks pretty easy.

Love my Kindle Fire. Had it since it first came out in November. Way cheaper than an ipad. I use mine to play games & surf the web & watch movies. My three daughters love it more than me:-)

It's definitely to each their own. Of the 9 people I know who got them, 5 sent them back for varying reasons. Perception of weight, they hate the browser, had to root it to get it to do what they wanted, etc. I gave mine away to someone who will never try to do anything other than read on it.

The general consensus is that it just isn't right yet. Now some of that is repeating what the reviewers are saying. It doesn't seem to have the wow factor that the iPad had when it first came out. The iPad set the bar pretty high.

    For me:

I use it mostly as a reader. You are right - the browser is kinda weird and I hate the carousel thingie. It is heavy too, and it does take forever to charge.

Its okay but I wouldn't purchase one again.

I have a Nook Color and like it, but it's better for reading books than for the other things it does...

Does it have just a regular web browser on it? I have some discretionary funding -- about $250 in gift cards, and I'm like, what do I need now? So I thought maybe a tablet. I looked at the Kindle Fire, but .... meh. For the price it seems great, but ... I hesitate. I was thinking about something like this one: -- I love my Android OS! Especially with the Netflix app.

I have a regular Kindle, one of the older ones .... trying to convince myself I need more technology. LOL

lol Lunah. I don't think you can reliably use the Fire as a tablet - its almost like its trying to be too many things. The biggest thing is the lack of battery life - 4 hours and that's it!

Personally, I like my 3G/wifi iPad much better - 10 hour battery life.

The HCTC tablet looks nice - would be nice to have an idea of weight, battery life. Those are the two big bad things about the Fire.

I had the choice between Galaxy and Ipad and chose Ipad at times I wish I got the Galaxy but I liked Ipad for the size

I went by Best Buy and checked out the tablets ... decided on the Galaxy! It'll be here Friday.
