Ipod Touch?

  1. 0
Hey all. I'm starting nursing school next month and I've heard a lot bout nursing students using smartphones and such for the nursing apps. I thought about getting a smartphone but I really don't want to pay an extra $30 a month for the data plan. So, I'm considering getting the Ipod Touch so I can use the apps. Really, though, I know nothing about these things. Smartphones, either!

Do any of you use the Ipod touch? How many gb's do I need? Where do you get apps from? How much do they cost?

Any kind of info anyone can offer will be appreciated! jester: (These smilies were added by my 6 year old! FYI)

hi i love my itouch, but i havent downloaded any medical apps yet, but i have them saved on my comp, haha. a lot are free and a lot are paid apps. the gb's depend on how much you plan on using, like you need room for music/pics/apps/videos/games/etc. i have an 8gb, which is the smallest but it holds a lot, the next size up is 32, then 64gb. for more info you can look at the apple store online. you use itunes to install and download everything for the itouch which is free to download on the website, also on the website are prices, 8gb is $199, then others are higher. hope this helps!

i love my itouch. i have a few nursing apps on it--some free, some spendy but worth it. two things i really love it for are podcasts--there are a whole bunch of them relevant to nursing, and they're all free--and recording lectures. i bought a little plug-in mic for a few bucks. it looks exactly like a push pin. http://www.switcheasy.com/products/t...thumbtacks.php

i use that with an app called italk. you can get a free version or pay for one (just a few bucks). i find it so easy--just record lectures directly onto it and not have to worry about converting the file type or transferring it from a recorder to computer then to the itouch.

if you are going to use it for podcasts, i recommend buying the largest you can afford, as they take up a lot of room. mine is 32g (the largest available at the time, a year or two ago). love, love, love my itouch!

Thats funny there is a thread about this, I just bought an ipod touch yesterday since i start the program in august. I bought it solely for school with intentions of downloading medical apps. I think it is a good idea to get one. I bought the 8gb for $160 brand new on ebay. I would search on ebay or craig's list to get a better price as oppose to buying it from best buy or the apple store itself.

I just bought an ipod touch as well for nursing school. I probably wouldn't have except for my program REQUIRES you to have either the ipod touch or an iphone.

What nursing apps are you guys using? I looked through them, but didn't see anything I had to have.

Jess--did they say why you have to have one of those? What are they wanting you to do with them? Any app recommendations?

I do have an ipod touch--I love it. I have an hour drive each way to school, so I get to catch up on my favorite podcasts. Much better than morning radio.

My program doesn't require us to have one but I know that a lot of people recommend them for the apps and such. I could probably live without one but I thought it might make my life a little easier.

I just ordered it a few minutes ago so I don't have any apps yet but I was looking at the website and I saw several that I thought would be useful and are recommended.

This might sound really stupid but I really have no experience with these kinds of things but where do you get the podcasts?
