I have worked as nursing faculty. I need to throw out there to all nursing students who plan on buying an Iphone or such just for clinicals do not do so until you have started clinicals or talked to your nursing faculty. The reason why is because many schools do not allow students to have these items at hand. There is too big of risk of violating HIPPA laws with cameras on the phones and such. Therefore phones are no longer allowed during many nursing clinicals no matter what they are being used for.
I heard about this. Thanks for putting it out there.

I was told yesterday at orientation that the reason for the Ipad is because all facilities will be electronic within the next few years if they are not already. So this allows us to be familiar with the electronic record keeping and such. Gotta stay with the times!!!

We were told when we started clinicals to buy an IPhone or IPod because we had the option to buy Davis Drug Guide, Tabers, and Diseases and Disorders electronic books as a package for our phones and use them during clinicals! It has been wonderful having these on hand and have used them every semester since Jan 2011! I also have some other nursing apps like BMI calculator, Medscape, Epocrates. I have an IPhone, IPod Touch and an IPad and I use them daily. There is an awesome Lab app too on the iPad/iPhone! Wonderful and don't have to carry
Y computer everywhere!!!! Everyone in my class has an IPHone!!!!
