Evernote or MS Onenote?

Nurses Headlines

I just purchased a MacBook Pro for school and really have no idea how to use it. I'd like to utilize it as much as possible since I spent so much money on it. And I keep hearing how helpful they are with notetaking and studying, I just really don't know where to start. I posted a thread in Pre-nursing also since I've not yet started nursing school, I'm taking my pre-req's. I keep hearing about Evernote and Onenote and was wondering which do you prefer and why? And is there a YouTube video that shows me how to use them? I'd like to record my lectures (I have an IPhone also) and incorporate that with my notes. Thanks for any feedback!

Onenote doesn't come on the Mac.

I see. So I can use it on my iPhone, just not my MAC. So then it would be pointless bc nothing will transfer from the phone to the computer?

Yea pretty much. Microsoft knows that Onenote is one of its best pieces of software and is unwilling to develop it for Mac.

Though I love my Mac and would not trade it for a Windows computer, Onenote is a fabulous note-taking app that just has no true replacement on the Mac (Features like type anywhere, put any file anywhere). It's the only thing I wish I had.

Evernote is really nice though. It will automatically sync between all of your devices and can store any kind of file.

So I hear with Onenote you can type notes and record lectures at the same time and if you lose a spot in your notes you can hit the recording and it will pick up where you left off. Does Evernote not do that? And should I use the voice memo from the utilities on the phone or the recorder in Evernote? Did I hear somewhere that the Evernote recorder only records for a certain length of time? Sorry, I'm just trying to figure out how it works. I do appreciate your help!

I've never used any recorder that extensively except on the iPad in handwritten note-taking apps so I don't really know.

This will be the first time in a long time that ill be using my Mac vs. my iPad. My nursing school requires ebooks and a laptop in class.

Microsoft OneNote is now free in the Mac App Store. You're welcome ?

Good day, 7237dallas :

I've been using Evernote for a few years now. What I enjoy is that it syncs across various platforms from my Windows desktop to my iPad to my android smartphone. http://www.imore.com/home-depot-switches-execs-iphones-macbooks-it-blames-windows-massive-breach is an interesting read. I worked in IT for close to 30 years prior to switching over to nursing, and it was common to see Windows this/that hacked easily, deeply, and badly compared to Apple-based products. That's one of several reasons why I don't use Onenote.

Thank you.

I love Evernote as well. It syncs to all my devices which means I can use my phone to review notes but also works well with different mediums, text, audio and visual media.

I've had a lot if issues with Evernote lately. Not syncing on multiple devices, losing work, and notes randomly reverting back to old copies (usually months old) from multiple syncings ago... I still use it but I'm wary and now save my work in 3 other places... I guess it kinda makes using it redundant, LOL!

Good day, BeachyRN2Be :

Uninstall Evernote and re-install. The main problem I run into is on Windows rather than other operating systems.

Thank you.
