I have a powerbook G4 15" and absolutely love it. I have Microsoft Office on it, plus all the great mac programs and it works wonderful for school.
I wouldn't ever get a windows pc again.

I've never owned an Apple so can't comment on that. However, I have a Sony Vaio TR3a (10" screen) which is wonderful, wi-fi, etc. It is so little but does so much. I have been very happy with it.

My personal experience with Apples is that they are much harder to use. That's why I don't have one. I have a Dell and I love it. Customer service is great and you can build your own on their website. I'll admit, those Apples are cute but it goes deeper for me.

Had a HP before the Dell and when it crashed, they refused to pay for it even though it was still under warranty and I was not at fault. I was on the phone 2-3 times daily for 2 weeks. When I had a man call, they agreed to pay for it. Hmmm, sounds a bit sexist, doesn't it? Look at more than the computer. Look at customer service and warranties.

I used to be a Dell fan. But not anymore. On the last laptop I bought they cheated me on the amount of RAM memory I purchased. Unfortunately, I discovered this too late to get my money back.

Then, on my regular Dell desktop, they sent a Dell sponsored Windows update that completely crashed the computer. When I called, they apologized but said there was nothing I could do but completely scrub the hard drive.

This problem was so widespread that it was actually reported in the press. I've found that their customer service has really declined as well. Apparently I'm not the only dissatisfied customer because Dell's sales are down for the last two quarters now.

I buy Alien computers now. I'm done with Dell and Apple.

    1) Compatibility issues. I always had to get different software for Apple because it's a different operating system. Windows is the standard OS in the industry and it's just too much of a hassle to deal with Apple's OS, which is not standard with most software packages.

    2) This was years ago but I bought a G3 which was supposed to be the latest, greatest thing. I had all kinds of problems with it freezing up. Then the G4 came out which was supposed to solve that problem, among others, but they wouldn't sell it as an upgrade to the G3. You had to buy an entirely new G4 computer to get the upgrade so ... that's when they lost me as a customer.

Whatever you get make sure you get the extended protection.

I purchased a powerbook G4 12 inch and am sooooo happy with it. I would highly recommend a powerbook , or even the ibook (my sister has one, and I have not noticed much difference) . They have great student discounts on thier website and at thier stores - they are currently having a promotion for 50% off office ... Love apple and apple products, but in todays windows based world you cannot survive without office for Mac

well the only thing I regret is not getting the extended apple care plan

a couple of months ago I my computer took a spill with the charger in it, it was bent, so I cannot charge it without my external charger - apple wants 600 to fix (need to replace the whole motherboard)

I found someone online who claims they can fix it for 250, but I don't have the $ right now ...

I thought I was the only one that happened to! Mine was on my desktop where they offered a second CD burner upgrade. My own fault for not getting out the 400X microscope and see that to do that, they downgraded the memory.

Never had mine crash, it runs too slow because of the memory deficiency. Most it can manage is a hard bump.

They build custom non-proprietary computers to order. There's none of the proprietary components that Apple or Dell has, so parts can be easily replaced.

For example, when the Dell laptop power supply broke, I had to wait two weeks for them to deliver it because I couldn't buy the part at local stores. Even the Dell stores didn't carry it. So I couldn't use the laptop for two weeks when, of course, I really needed it ... even though I paid for FedEx "overnight" delivery for the power supply.

You also don't get all that crappy software that Dell puts on their systems. I hate having to deal with and disabling the 30 day trial software and all that other junk they put on their computers to make money.
