    hello all!

just wanted to introduce myself. i live in the st. charles area and am looking to go back to school at sccc to be an rn. currently my husband takes classes for a teaching degree while he stays home with our daughter (can't afford daycare) so i'm going to try to work full time and take classes to bring my gpa back up (i made some poor choices at college after i graduated high school.) while getting the non-nursing classes out of the way. sccc's nursing acceptance policy is on a first come-first serve basis of whoever meets the pre-reqs. i've always wanted to help people and do something meaningful with my life, and the nurses that i had when i delivered my daughter and at my doctor's office are the two i have to thank for giving me that final push in a field i was always thinking about but hadnt pursued due to personal reservations. and now i think i can do it!

wdwpixiern I posted this in the STLCC Forest Part section but thought I would repost here because i think you have great things to say not only to help people gain confidence in themselves but in the overall scheme of getting though school and starting out in the field. Here is a copy of what I posted in the FP thread.

Hi there I have been reading through these posts and think it is great the suggestions, guidance and encouragement everyone is offering. I wanted to ask about peoples experiences and thoughts on coming from a completely different career field and getting into nursing. Is there a time where it is just to late to look at a career change, were you happy with the change, was transitioning from a field to far out of the reach of health care just to much or was it just the thing you needed to get into nursing? I have been in a different field for 8 yrs and I am now going through my 3rd lay off in 13 months so I really want to get away from this field and have always found nursing to be an interesting field. My ex spouse is going through nursing school now and I have always looked at her school books going through the prereq's and was just blown away. I posted on this forum because it is looked at by local individuals and while there are plenty of other discussion threads on this site about this type of question i wanted to get the take from people who live and work where I do. Any advice, suggestions or heck any info at would be great!

Hi....my name is Anna, 53yo, and I live in a little town in southwest MO, near Joplin. I've been working in an LTC facility for almost 3 months and got my certification last Thursday. I work 2nd shift, 2-10.

I've been lurking on here since I went to work in Sept. but wanted to wait until I certified before joining. This is an absolutely awesome site and I've learned a lot just from reading.

Hello Anna, and welcome! I, too, live in a little town in SW MO. Sorry, don't know what an LTC facility is. Congrats on your certification!

I will be moving to the snowy and cold state of Missouri this April from NJ. I am really looking forward to it. I plan on being in the Chesterfield area to begin with, and who knows where I'll end up once I'm established.

I just passed the NCLEX (I just got the "Pass" status today, as a matter of fact!) and as soon as I have the NJ license in hand, I'm applying for the endorsement license. Really excited about the whole move!

Actually Missouri isn't always snowy and cold! Coming from S. CA, I find that I really like the change in seasons, occasional snow, ice, etc. Good luck with your move and congrats on your "pass"!

:wink2: There is definitely more snow during the winter in MO than here in NJ -snowfall on the Jersey Shore usually amounts to a dusting, and some ice, nothing noteworthy!

And, Thank You! I'm so excited to start my nursing career! It was a long, difficult journey, and I can't wait to take the next step.
