Saint Louis Community College Wait List

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

Hello,

My name is Les. I began my college career as a biology student... I decided about a year ago that I wanted to be nurse... I enrolled at SIUE as a prenursing student. At first it was really important to me that I get a BSN , but now I'm thinking of getting an ADN because of I have two small children. I can't afford to be in school forever. I want to go to Forest Park.. I already know quite a bit about the Nursing program there.( I went to school there for a semester), but I wanted to know how long the wait list is .. I've heard conflicting information. I've that the wait can be anywhere from 3 years to 6 months. Can anyone in the program(at any campus) tell me how long they waited???

Yeah I would like to know as well as I am considering going there too, but I've been too long out of school so I have to take Biology and Chemistry. If it takes too long, I may just decide to try and go the accelerated route, but I would rather be able to work a little while I was in school.

I think it varies....call one of the nursing coordinators on that campus to see what insight they can give you. There's been one big change to the programs in that they now require the passage of the dosage calculations test prior to even getting on the list. I don't know how that has effected the length of the lists.

I highly recommend the STLCC programs; I think they do a great job and I am glad I have chosen it for my ADN! I think the wait will be well worth it.

Best wishes!!

Lovetoday, how about applying to the CC and while waiting, you could get most of your gen ed courses out of the way. I don't know how many you have but Barnes requires 67 credits for admittance into their BSN program. All (or most) nursing programs, whether is an ADN or BSN, are 2 years in length once you are in the "nursing" portion of your education. I wish you the best.

I am in my last semester of pre-requisite nursing classes at St. Louis Community College, and when I first went to Meramec (in August of 2006), I applied to be on the waiting list for the nursing program. I got a letter saying I would get in during this semester (Spring of 2008), so it almost took two years! Each semester they sent me a letter regarding where I was at on the list. However, I turned down the offer (hopefully giving someone else on the waiting list a chance), because I want to get my BSN by 2010..and doing Meramec's program would throw that goal way off. I recently applied to UMSL's traditional BSN program, as well as their Accelerated BSN program, and now its just a game of waiting to find out if I got in! I have only heard great things about STLCC's nursing program from many people in my various classes. So I am positive it is worth the wait for everyone. Good luck to all!

I applied to STLCC at Flo Valley and Forest Park in October (after passing the dosage calculations test) and received a letter from Flo Valley that I would be in for Fall of this year. Forest Park currently has me on the waiting list at number 120. It doesn't matter, because I am admitted for the Fall 2008 class at St. Charles Community College and will go there instead. I don't know how long the wait will be at Forest Park, however, I'm going to decline my admission at Flo Valley, so a spot will open up there. Unfortunately it will go to the next person on the list. Flo Valley only admits in the fall, however, Forest Park admits in the spring and fall, so you may have a chance there.

Just apply to as many schools as possible. You'll get in somewhere. Good luck!

I started in Florissant Valley's program. They told me it was a 2 year wait list, and it ended up being 1. Which was perfect b/c i got all of my pre reqs out of the way and played softball for a year. The problem is that 3rd and 4th semester is HORRIBLE THERE! They fail at least 1/2 of their students and are getting sued for discrimmination AGAIN. My word of advice, go to Forest Park, I'm a recent grad from there, they start both semesters (Flo only does one) and they are GREAT!! passed NCLEX in 75 questions and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOREST PARK!!!

Meramec's program is also very good. I hadn't heard that about FV; sounds rough.

Wow Jenny, I hadn't heard that about Flo Valley, as I've only heard great things about Flo Valley. They have a 96% pass rate on the NCLEX, which I think is pretty good. Did you start off at Flo Valley and then transfer to Forest Park? Also, why are they being sued for discrimination? Everyone I have met associated with the program have been really nice, though I haven't met everyone, so I guess there could be a few bad apples. Also, how is Flo Valley's curriculum different from Forest Park's? I thought each school in the STLCC system had the same program. Sorry for so many questions, I'm just really surprised by your post.

They are being sued b/c one certain teacher has told many students that they are not competent. She actually even told one student that it doesn't matter how smart you are, b/c in the end it comes down to how much the instructors like you if you pass or not. They have closed finals, you never get to see your final they just give you your score, so you have no idea on what you got wrong. Many people who were passing find out that they failed by one point, but are denied being able to see it. Seems kinda fishy. It is true that they have a 100% pass rate, but they only graduate at most 20 students at a time. They weed out anybody they think has the slightest possibility on not passing nclex b/c they are more preoccuppied with keeping that 100% pass rate than letting students who still have a good chance in passing nclex succeed. I am not the only one that feels like this. I went there the first year and it was GREAT. The teachers are fabulous for the first year. Then 3rd-4th semester they switch teachers and it gets crazy. They have actually been sued for this before and lost and ended up paying for a students entire education. They do have the same curriculum but the FV teachers refuse to teach from it.

I'm not sure that this is a huge issue so far as any "discrimination" suit goes. I attend Meramec and each semester up to this, my 4th, it has been standard policy. I would guess FP's is the same as it's in our general syllabus each semester that is for all 3 campuses. I don't necessarily like the policy, but it is what it is. As for it being "fishy", I'm thinking not really...at least as it relates to all the campuses...for whatever reason it is that they do it....

This "switching of the teachers" is also fairly common, I believe. Each semester we have a different set of instructors. It's not a conspiracy; it's just that each semester's teachers has their own set of strengths that they bring to the classroom for the subject matter being covered that semester. Are some better than others? You bet, but I found that to be the same while taking English, sciences, history, math, etc.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience at Flo Valley, but the fact of the matter is that they do graduate students who do pass the NCLEX and they do have a high pass rate to show for that. Read around on allnurses; that pass rate IS primarily what school is about these days. If you can't graduate students who can pass the boards, then what's the point?!?!
