PAY FOR NEW GRADUATE RN's FOR ST. LOUIS AREA

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

Hey just thought I would throw some pay info out there for new grads for st. Louis area. I interviewed this month with SSM St. Joseph Health Center, SSM St. Mary's and I have 2 more interviews this week with St. Lukes and Missouri Baptist Med Center. The starting pay at SSM St. Joe's is $18.25 with a sign on bonus of $5000. Shift diff is different for evenings and nights and weekends and weekend nights. I was told weekend days was $2.00 xtra and weekend nights was $3.00 per hour more. SSM St. Mary's is downtown St. Louis, and they are more desperate for nurses, but I don't think the pay reflects that much. St. Mary's offers 11% nights and 16% weekends of your base pay. Base pay is $18.25. SSM does offer tuition reimbursement and they will pay back your student loans up to $12,000. Benefits will start the day you start. I used to work for SSM before as a Medical Assistant and they paid better than BJC. I was offered a position years ago at BJC and they couldn't touch SSM pay. If you start as a new grad, they only require a 18 month contract, which isn't bad considering that you will get your experience in 1 1/2 years and will be eligible to do travel nursing and make more money. I don't know about you all out there, but I would like to retire in 20 years or sooner and have my house paid off, and be able to travel to other countries on vacation before I end up too old. Nursing to me, isn't just about money...I want to be able to be somewhere, where I will be happy to go into work in the morning. I will post next week what St. Lukes and MOBAP will offer.

According to Salary.com, nurses in St. Louis area should be making minimum of $53,000 and max of $64,000. I am wondering if the $18.25 would be negotiable. I would be happy starting at $20.00. Does anyone know how to go about negotiating base pay? Thanks

I was hoping to get a job at one of the hospitals that we do clinicals at. Thanks for the information. I hope you enjoy your work there and maybe I will see you in 2 years if you are still there. Thanks again

Great info guys also I would like to add that I currently work as a student nurse at SSM St. Marys, they are starting their new grads at 18.50 and up depending on experience etc. I also looked at SLCH and they are only starting at 17.50. Overall I think that St. Marys, St. Lukes, and St. Johns Mercy Medical Center are great places to work at. I graduate this December and I am filling out applications eveywhere and doing some research as well. I'm even looking out of state and have found some really great salaries. Travel nursing is definitely in my future plans. Good Luck to you all.

has anyone worked at St. Louis University hospital or Barnes Jewish on Kingshighway?

MOBAP pays graduate nurses 18.25 PH days. Tuition reinbursement is 2500.00 per year. 6000.00 signing bonus in Med-surg. 2 yr contract required but you can change areas after 1 year. Talk to them between your 3rd and 4th year of NS. They also offer tuition assistance (up to 6,000) if you sign before your 4th year. Tough assignment but think what you can do with the sign-on.

A little off topic but Antona how do you travel with kids? Do you homeschool? I would love to travel but have a wife and 5 yo kid.

Is starting pay for RN and BSN the same in Missouri? If not what is the average starting for BSN in St. Louis?

I just talked to MoBap today and they said starting pay for GN's is 18/hr but if you have previous BJC work experience (like as in a tech position), you get 18.25/hr. Hope this helps!

I know I'm a little late in responding, but there is no difference in starting pay for having a BSN versus an ADN. Every new grad will start out at the same pay regardless of education.

Tigerrose- I have been trying to contact the nurse recruiter at St. Lukes for a while now because I have heard nothing but good things about st. Lukes and I love that they have no cap on tuition reimbursment. I was wondering if you new if they hire new grads on the CVICU floor? I absolutly love that kind of medicine and I work on a high risk cardiac unit right now at Barnes Jewish Hospital. I am trying to get onto a CVICU floor when I graduate in June and was wondering if you had any suggestions to help me? I am eventually wanting to go back to school for CRNA. Thanks!!!

Two hospitals in the St. Louis area grant a BSN differential. St. John'shas had a BSN diff in place for awhile and I believe St. Luke's just started offering one as well.

St. Luke's does hire new grads in the CVICU. I have not heard of any pay differential yet for those that have their BSN.
