On the Verge of Failure, Need Advice

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

-I am a current nursing student in my junior year

-I am on the verge of not passing my pharm class with the requirement of a grade of a 77% in the class

-These past two years have been the hardest years of my life

-I entered nursing school with no support & respect from my family

-My parents are directly from India; my father is a doctor as well as my brother (just passed his boards)

-They don't see eye to eye on how hard this program here is for me because they have gone through medical school

-I am scared out of my mind as to what will happen if I don't pass pharm

-I will be an entire year behind and will be the laughing stock of the community causing my parents to "hide me in the closet at home & hang their heads down in shame" (if you can't tell they are VERY old-fashioned)

-During this past summer I took pathophysiology in hopes of getting it out of the way to concentrate on pharm during the school year because our program requires that we take them simultaneously

-Sadly I completely failed it during the summer; So I am currently retaking it and barely passing again

-The same professor teaches both Pathophysiology & Pharmacology

-She is the hardest professor in the entire School of Nursing

-During the summer I met with a tutor and discussed how she would help me; a tutor type of style teaching really isn't my style of learning

-As for going in & talking to the professor I have yet to do it once this entire semester; why you may ask? She scares me and makes me feel worthless and useless

-Why? When I was taking my first Patho test of the semester I ran out of time with 10 questions left. She told me that I could possibly have a disability and should go get tested so I can have extra time to take the test

-I took this as an insult

-I am completely lost and torn as to what to do

-I'm scared out of my mind for this final and need all the advice I can get

-As of now, I have to get a 90% on the final to pass

-My highest grade in the class on the quizzes (20 questions) is a 85%

What school is this if you don't mind me asking?

It may seem insurmountable, but you can do this. I suggest that you spend the next few days studying, sleeping, and eating. Have you thought of a studying with a study group? Sometimes studying with other people helps. I was in a situation in nursing school in which I had to get a 90% on my final and you know what, I studied for three days straight, only stopping to eat and sleep, and I got it! I hope that you get the grade you need, but if you don't, please do not let this get you down. If you really want to be a nurse then you will continue to pursue your dream even if it takes you longer to achieve it. I know of people who failed out of my program but reapplied and are back in. They didn't let one little setback stop them and neither should you. Good luck!

Please don't be insulted when your instructor asked if you had a disability. I'm sure she meant a learning disability and that has no bearing on your intelligence. Some of the smartest people struggle with taking tests.

I'm sorry you're struggling. It's miserable to feel you can't keep your head above water. You have our support here. I hope things get better for you. Hugs.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice, support, & thoughts. By God's grace and a miracle I passed!!!!! Thanks again! :)
