You are welcome. Again, I have nothing against JeffCo's program and have heard good things about it in the community.

I just know when my daughter was accepted last year at Jeffco and we looked through the program's TIME REQUIREMENTS, I was astounded at the classroom time required, never mind that she would have to attend all summer long. She was told that there would be little allowance for missing class (STLCC is the same for clinicals/labs). I strongly discouraged her as she's a single mom of two young ones and all I could see what that she was setting herself up for failure. My feelings had nothing to do with their academics or anything else in case anyone decides to blast me.

I just felt it was important to point these differences out in their programs as my children are grown and, oh MY, how the time flew. Spending as much time as you can with them while young is vitally important. Have an extra summer with them is priceless!

Good luck with your decision! :redpinkhe :redbeathe :redpinkhe

Someone mentioned that STLCC's waiting list for adn was only 2 semesters & one could use that time to complete pre reqs. This is a new concept to me, as I'm from northern Il. Where all pre reqs must be completed before one can apply to an rn program. My question is what pre reqs have to ne completed before you apply?

I think every school is different. Although I have to have all of my pre-reqs completed prior to starting the actual nursing program, I eligible and am appying to for the Fall of 2010, this is based on number of my current credits and GPA, although final acceptance would be contingent upon completing and passing all the required pre-reqs. I am not sure about the commuity college, you might want to call them and speak to a nursing advisor they will be able to answer your questions. Good Luck

i went thru the applied tech program thru the special school district....im a student there now and i graduate in less than 2weeks....the program is half the cost of sanford brown and with all the info i was taught i passed my exit exam the first time....SO I SAY ITS DEFINITELY WORTH IT!!! the year went by sooooo quick and for that reason alone i say go for it....the class had young people older people so anyone can make it..............GO FOR IT AND GOOD LUCK!!!!

www.appliedtech-stl.com has a lpn program.

This is more of an off topic question to WDWpixieRN. I tried to figure out a way to email or message you from this site but couldn't figure it out....don't know if it is too early in the day or what!

Anyway, you have the closest demographic information to mine, so I wanted to pepper you with some questions. I will be 52 when I finish with my BSN so I wanted to find out about you experiences as a student at this age, and your experience in entering the profession. Thanks!

Hi, I came across your post and was curious as to where you went to for nursing school. I am going to start with my prereqs this summer, and am looking for advice/help. I was very encouraged with your age when you went to nursing school. This is something that I have always wanted to do, and now that my two oldest daughters are in college, I am ready to take care of me! I am 44 and I also have a friend that is ten yrs. older than me and going to do the same thing. I welcome any advice or comments. Thanks

Lori

If it is something you want to do go for it. I wish I would have done it 20 years ago but I think I appreciate it so much more now. I am currently finishing my pre-reqs at Maryville University, it has taken me 2 years part-time about 2 to 3 classes per semester, including summers, for the pre-reqs but I had only 3 credit hours when I started. I will finish my last 2 pre-reqs this summer. I was accepted and start the actual nursing program through Maryville in August which is an additional 2 years. When I am finished I will have my BSN. Although Maryville is more expensive than a community college it is what works for me because I work full time and have 2 daughters. They have a weekend/evening program geared towards non-traditional students. Most of my classmates are about my age and are changing careers. I have nothing but good things to say and could not be happier. Even when I start the actual nursing program/clinicals they are in the evenings and on the weekends. I have had to get loans with a little "free" money but not much so I will owe when I graduate but it is well worth it to me to be able to do something that I know I will absolutely love. Good Luck to you!!! :)

Does anyone know if the lpn program credits from south county tech (applied technology services) in Sunset Hills will transfer into any of the community colleges rn programs? Have any of you ladies worked while attending lpn classes? Please ladies I need all the advice I can get. I have taken and passed the TEAS test already and will either be attending in September 2011 or April 2012 depending on finances.

No the credits from applied tech will not transfer to a community college
