Anyone attending cox college

U.S.A. Missouri

I was wondering if anyone on here is going to cox college nursing program. :heartbeat

MSU has much more competitive admissions (is harder to get into), higher NCLEX pass rates, and a more prestigious community reputation. It also costs substantially less to attend. As far as the 70% passing to 75% passing, it's my understanding that a lot of programs raise the bar for passing rather than make the curriculum more difficult.

What's the nclex passing rates at cox college? Did everyone in your program passed the nclex? If you were him, got admitted to both programs and had a choice to pick between cox college and MSU nursing program which one would you have picked?

Well the asn program pass rate is 100% bsn is high I think 98% but you can look up the pass rate on the Missouri board of nursing website. I never went to MSU so I can't give you a honest opinion on that. I did notice that them seemed to have more free time then we did but since I only talked to students when they came to Cox I don't know how hard it was, but we seemed to have more work. The reason I choice Cox is because they had a high pass rate, did all their clinicals in one instruction, and they had other programs I could attend if I would like. I never thought about retention before picking a program. Now I believe that Cox program may have a lower retention rate then other programs but if you make it, you will pass NCLEX and be a good nurse. Like I said before we loss almost half our class before it was over. If I were to choice again I still would choose Cox. It was hard and I am glad it is over :) I was just saying if he is in one program (MSU) and applying to another (cox) I would stay in the program I am already in because Cox may not accept the nursing credits already done. I think the only school that accepts other programs nursing credits is Mercy (SBU).

Whichever program you decide to apply to, I'd recommend getting a BSN the first time around. It's usually cost and time efficient, and will open more doors for your career, as many hospitals hire more BSN grads due to magnet status and/or striving for magnet.

In many areas of the country, new ASN grads are having a hard time finding jobs. Just search the AN boards and you'll find hundreds of posts regarding unsuccessful job hunts for new grads. Why not do everything you can to ensure you'll find a job after spending 4 years getting a degree?

In our area BSN is not required. ASN students get there pick as far as specialty the first weeks of our last semester. By the time everyone finish their bsn I will have mind and a years experience. 100% of the ASN and BSN graduates have a job offer and is one thing that Cox prides it's self over. Really in our area the world is yours. Good luck to you :)

I just started with Cox College and am not in the nursing program yet, but am working diligently to get there in the next year. I have a family and a job and need advice. What are some of the best strategies you used to get through the nursing program? I have read a lot of this discussion and it seems as though this is a program that demands almost all of one's time. Are there jobs with the hospital that take inexperienced workers and works with their school schedule? I really want to be a nurse but know little about it. I am learning as I go. Thanks

There were several of my class mates that worked while going to school. Most did not have a problem getting a job at Cox or Mercy while in the program and they said that their managers worked around their school schedule. Good luck!

Thanks. I appreciate the help. I'll take all the luck I can get ;)
