Hello

I live in Maryland Hts and I will be a new student at Lutheran School Nursing beginning Spring 2009 semester. I am a nontraditional student (older with one degree in another field). Just wanted to say hello.:heartbeat:heartbeat

2beenursery10..............I am curious if you've completed all of your paperwork yet. I am wanting to try for acceptance into the january 2010 lpn-rn class and have not done any of my paperwork yet. I don't know when it is due by. I also didn't know if you live close to the school, or you will be commuting. The reason I ask is that I live about an hour west of the school and was curious if you knew of any other routes to get there. Thank You so much............

Hello, I live about an hour west of St.Louis. I am not good w/ navigating city traffic. I am attempting to get accepted into the bridge program @ LSN. Are any of the current/future students carpooling, or parking @ commuter lots and taking the metrolink, bus, etc. Is that safe? I'm not sure show that would work w/ clinicals and pre-planning also?? Just curious if anyone else is doing this, and how it is or isn't working out.:specs: I do drive and am very fortunate enough to have a fairly decent vehicle. I have found that to get to St.Alexius was not very difficult, but getting back to the interstate was very confusing, and very busy. :yeah:

Any ideas/imput is appreciated :-),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Thanks...........................................Misty:D

Misty, the majority of students (in my class) live fairly close and drive themselves. I dont know anyone that uses metro or car pools. With clinicals though you'd probably want to see if you could pair up with someone in your group b/c once a week after class you have to drive out to your hospital and get your pt. info for your paper work that is due the next day (in level 1). If you have St. Alexius it's no big deal b/c it's close but the other hospitals require you to take a hwy to get to them. What hwy would you be taking to school? Also, the sooner you get your paperwork in the better, spots fill quickly. I'm not sure when the board meets for Jan. 10 class but I'm sure it's soon b/c the fall 09 class has already been picked and starts in Aug.

Yes misty i've done all of my paper work plus prereq's and gen eds. only thing i have to do now is get a referrence from my current school program administrator when i graduate lpn, and that won't be until mar. 2010. and i have to take the GAP exam.

i live about 20-25 min. from lutheran depending on traffic and with hwy 40 shutdown it may take a little longer. so hopefully it's done by the time you start. um, what area do you live and that way i could tell you what to avoid and hwy to take.

I'll be attending lsn in 2010 in the lpn-rn bridge. if there are any lpn's that have bridged can you tell me what was the GAP test like? mary in adm/finacial aid told me that all lpn's has to take this test in order to get in. also, are all of the med/surg classes 8 weeks?

Thanks :D

2BeeNursey10: the GAP test is an NCLEX style test concerning your PN program. If you need to study-some students don't while others like to-just get an NCLEX book for PN's and take a couple of the tests. Feel free to call the school whenever you need to and good luck!!

Hey LSNSt, thanks alot. i'll test sometime in late feb. or early march before i graduate. i talked to mary she said it's best i do while the info will be fresh in my mind, and also the classes fill up pretty quick too. can't wait.

I grad. from LSN Nov, 2005. I live in St Clair, MO and traveled to LSN via Hwy 44. I highly recommend you plan to drive each day in your own car. Get off at Jefferson and go straight until you get to the school (Miami & Jefferson). Go home the same way...it's easy. Getting to the other hospitals isn't too hard and your instructors will help with directions. You will get used to the city traffic in time. Also you may want to consider living in the dorms as it saves 2 hours you could be studying. Best wishes.

riverwink, how did you feel when you got your first job as a new grad. nurse? Prepared?

Yes, I felt very prepared dt the amount of time we spend on the floor in hospitals. Like you I choose LSN because of this fact and was happy I did so. I have seen many nurses start with a 4 year degree who have the book knowledge but not the practical knowledge. You made a wise choice...just continue and get your MSN after working for a few years. That's where the money is
