Accelerated BSN Programs - Kansas City Metro

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

I just finished my application process for Mid-America Nazarene University's Accelerated BSN program.

Anyone out there who also applied or has completed the program? Waiting until July to hear back is going to be torture. That said,

I just got my letter back from MidAmerica Nazarene University and I was put on the wait list for their accelerated program. Have you heard anything back yet? Do you know how many people they put on the wait list?

Hey there. I got a letter last week informing me that I was also waitlisted. I have no idea how many were put on the waiting list. The letter mentioned that they reviewed over 150 applications and I believe they accept less than 40. Good luck no matter what happens!

I also got waitlisted. I did call and speak to Crystal and she said that I should be excited because last year they accepted the entire wait list. I am not entirely counting on being in the program but I have high hopes. You all should too!

On a side note...what is everyone doing for financial aid? I am scared to death that I wont get enough aid to cover the $38K it going to cost to pay for the program AND I need a little additional to help with the cost of childcare for my kids while I am in school full time. Going to a public university I have always gotten extra aid each semester but I don't know because the tuition is so high what is going to happen. Anyone getting grants/scholarships...etc... and would you all suggest possibly taking out a educational loan through a bank to cover additional money I may need to cover tuition and childcare?

I have previously went to a state school as well. So I am counting on grants/loans to cover the cost of tuition. If that doesn't cover it I'm going to try to take out an alternative loan like Sallie Mae or something like that. Hopefully that will cover most of it! If you don't mind me asking, what was your prereq and cumulative GPA? They said in the letter I got that they are going to rank us only based off of that for the wait list. Thank you and good luck!!!

Hopefully grants and loans cover 3/4 of it..I am definitely going to have to go the alternative loan route because I need a bit extra to pay for my kids to go to daycare. My husband's income alone wont cover it all unfortunately.

I don't mind you asking about gpa...

Cumulative is the lowest (I had classes from 11 years ago that ruined my GPA) its a 3.0

Prereq GPA is much better, its a 3.6

If you dont mind me asking what is yours?

Thanks and good luck to you as well!!

Sorry it took me forever to respond! I'm sure you will find a way to afford it. Once you graduate and find a job as a nurse most places will pay you back for your schooling as well. My cumulative GPA is a 3.2 now and my prereq GPA is a 3.7. I am taking two classes this summer and I still have one more semester left this fall until I graduate in December. So I'm hoping to raise them both a little with the classes I still have left to take. I emailed Crystal and asked her how many people they put on the waiting list and she said 42. I found that very encouraging. I figured there would be a lot more. Let me know if you here anything from them! Good luck! :)

I got an email back from Crystal saying they put 42 people on the waiting list. That's less than I thought there would be!

Being on the waiting list is so frustrating. I feel like I don't have a very good chance just because of my 3.0 cumulative GPA :( I know it is not competitive at all, I too am taking classes but I only have 1 more left until I have completed every prereq course I can take. I don't think I will be able to raise it leaps and bounds. I hope they admit the whole wait list as they did last year (according to Crystal).

I am not putting all my eggs in one basket though, I also applied a few other places just in case. I should be getting letters soon. If I get in somewhere else I will be so conflicted because all the other programs I applied to are traditional programs, not accelerated. I just don't want to wait around for MidAmerica if I get direct admittance somewhere else but in a perfect world I would have just gotten accepted into MidAmerica, hopefully we hear something soon so we all know where we stand.

Are you going to the open house on July 25th?

Do you if they accepted the entire wait list for your year as well? I just got wait listed for Fall 2013 and I am wondering how my chances are of getting in. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
